HolUp. Here's the list of the winners of the Best (and worst) of r/HolUp 2020

Time to see who are the best and worst of us

I guess we have to actually pick winners. Also, hopefully if I post this, Susan will let me out of her basement.
2020 Holup Free Coins From Admins So Why Not Awards:

King Shitposter

What do you mean this is a shit post sub? This subreddit is for top quality content only. Pfffffft.
Anyway the winner in this category is u/Allstarhit, nominated by u/Sully10592

Upvoted Repost (God this Sub Sucks Award)

Some of the nominations in this category sound interesting to say the least. I haven't looked at a single one of them
Well the winner of this category is u/try-bi-sum-cum, interesting name I must admit. nominated by u/VoidFreeze8.
#Best meme in a sub that isn't supposed to be memes
So, uhm, there were only two nominations. Losing this category's gotta be pretty embarrassing.
The winner was (well is, unless they died under mysterious conditions that lead the police to a potato farm that claims their potatoes are made of fairy liquid), oops side-tracked, well the winner is u/FORKgive-me nominated by u/IDK_for_options

Techsupport420 Platinum Chungus award

Idk who this award was named after, but they should be banned AgainstTechSupport
Well anyway the winner is u/braceem who was nominated by u/siouxsie_siouxv2 (notice how a mod nominated them, this is rigged)

Tweet Theft of the Year

I've ran out of funny things to say. Just kidding, I was never funny. But seriously though, it's hard to say something funny about something as unfunny as tweets.
The big boy winner is u/discovid19 nominated by u/IndigoSoln (I know another mod nominating these, I'm starting to notice a pattern)

Salty User Award

Now get ready for a sob story, kids. I replied to that comment, pointing out how I thought this was about users but then realised it was about posts. And then, I got the most votes, and someone gave my comment a ternion, but nooo, apparently I didn't win and I'm just being salty (somebody please nominate me for 2021)
u/thicmilkdani won this but we hope he won't bottle up the emotions this causes and will speak to a professional. Out of everyone being modded from this thing, we decided to mod him first because he's a good sport, and he has spirit. nominated by u/VoidFreeze8

The Platinum Bucky

I have no idea what this award is, give me a minute to read up on it
I have finished reading, and I didn't know this sub had any good posts.
u/wroneq congratulations on understanding this subreddit. And thank you to u/IDK_for_options for recognising such a good post

Give this discord user some free coins

Hmm that sounds like a weird reddit award
Well the winner is u/franticbicc (mia). Other than the fact that she lives halfway across the world from me, and that we're not related, she is my twin. Anybody who says anything bad about her gets an immediate ban, and I won't consult with Susan.
SUSAN HOW MANY AWARDS DID YOU MAKE? FSASAWLINIHIJL

Diamond Virginity award

So, uhm. If you are unmarried, please skip to the next award, this is some very unchristian language.
u/Allstarhit is the winner. Nominated by u/IndigoSoln [insert another mods gay joke]

The Golden Racism Award

The description for this award tells me nothing, so I'll assume it's funny
u/moremacaronie won nominated by u/IDK_for_options
So uhm, I think I need to finish this post off. So:
One subreddit you should all check out:

DankExchange

We believe that sub will appeal to wheel-loving holup users, especially if they believe every post should be original content down to the meme template being used. Also, u/lukenamop is a wizard who built a game for gambling on memes, it feels good to finally have something to show for all this: piles and piles of fake currency. Everyone will be impressed, and you may be sore from all the girls who suddenly don't think you're gross.

And

make sure to go to sleep before 23:00 because it's a school night, or else I'll yeet you into another plane of existence
https://i.imgur.com/PLSmsKs.gifv
Because this is holup and Susan wants everyone to mod here, and Chem enjoys playing god, everyone who participated will be receiving the honorary mod position with a few being asked to actually do work for no money for an ungrateful corporation. Lucky them!

SEO is easy. The EXACT process we use to scale our clients' SEO from 0 to 200k monthly traffic and beyond

Hey guys!
There's a TON of content out there on SEO - guides, articles, courses, videos, scams, people yelling about it on online forums, etc etc..
Most of it, however, is super impractical. If you want to start doing SEO TODAY and start getting results ASAP, you'll need to do a TON of digging to figure out what's important and what's not.
So we wanted to make everyone's lives super easy and distill our EXACT process of working w/ clients into a stupid-simple, step-by-step practical guide. And so we did. Here we are.
P.S: startups, and seo loved the guide, so I thought you guys might like it too.

A bit of backstory:

If you guys haven't seen any of my previous posts, me and my co-founder own an SEO/digital marketing agency, and we've worked w/ a ton of clients helping them go from 0 to 200k+ monthly organic traffic. We've also helped some quite big companies grow their organic traffic (from 1M to over 1.8M monthly organic), using the exact same process.
So without further ado, grab your popcorn, and be prepared to stick to the screen for a while, cause this is going to be a long post. Here's everything I am going to cover:

Step #1 - Technical Optimization and On-Page SEO

Step #1 to any SEO initiative is getting your technical SEO right.
Now, some of this is going to be a bit technical, so you might just forward this part to your tech team and just skip ahead to "Step #2 - Keyword Research."
If you DON'T have a tech team and want a super easy tl;dr, do this:
If you’re a bit more tech-savvy, though, read on!

Technical SEO Basics

Sitemap.xml file. A good sitemap shows Google how to easily navigate your website (and how to find all your content!). If your site runs on WordPress, all you have to do is install YoastSEO or Rankmath SEO, and they’ll create a sitemap for you. Otherwise, you can use an online XML Sitemap generation tool.
Proper website architecture. The crawl depth of any page should be lower than 4 (i.e: any given page should be reached with no more than 3 clicks from the homepage). To fix this, you should improve your interlinking (check Step #6 of this guide to learn more).
Serve images in next-gen format. Next-gen image formats (JPEG 2000, JPEG XR, and WebP) can be compressed a lot better than JPG or PNG images. Using WordPress? Just use Smush and it’ll do ALL the work for you. Otherwise, you can manually compress all images and re-upload them.
Remove duplicate content. Google hates duplicate content and will penalize you for it. If you have any duplicate pages, just merge them (by doing a 301 redirect) or delete one or the other.
Update your ‘robots.txt’ file. Hide the pages you don’t want Google to index (e.g: non-public, or unimportant pages). If you’re a SaaS, this would be most of your in-app pages. ]
Optimize all your pages by best practice. There’s a bunch of general best practices that Google wants you to follow for your web pages (maintain keyword density, have an adequate # of outbound links, etc.). Install YoastSEO or RankMath and use them to optimize all of your web pages.
If you DON’T have any pages that you don’t want to be displayed on Google, you DON’T need robots.txt.

Advanced Technical SEO

Now, this is where this gets a bit more web-devvy. Other than just optimizing your website for SEO, you should also focus on optimizing your website speed.
Here’s how to do that:
Both for Mobile and PC, your website should load in under 2-3 seconds. While load speed isn’t a DIRECT ranking factor, it does have a very serious impact on your rankings.
After all, if your website doesn’t load for 5 seconds, a bunch of your visitors might drop off.
So, to measure your website speed performance, you can use Pagespeed Insights. Some of the most common issues we have seen clients facing when it comes to website speed and loading time, are the following:
Want to make your life easier AND fix up all these issues and more? Use WP Rocket. The tool basically does all your optimization for you (if you’re using WordPress, of course).
Lastly, if you want to validate the website speed optimization changes you've made, or if you simply want to test how your current site is performing, you can use Google Page Speed Insights*.*
In May 2020, Google rolled out its Core Web Vitals update, which in layman terms means starting next May (2021), the three most important website load speed metrics you will need to worry for ranking will be:
  1. LCP - Largest Contentful Paint -> under 2.5s
  2. FID - First Input Delay -> under 100ms
  3. CLS - Cumulative Layout Shift -> under 0.1

Step #2 - Keyword Research

Once your website is 100% optimized, it’s time to define your SEO strategy.
The best way to get started with this is by doing keyword research.
First off, you want to create a keyword research sheet. This is going to be your main hub for all your content operations.
You can use the sheet to:
  1. Prioritize content
  2. Keep track of the publishing process
  3. Get a top-down view of your web pages
And here’s what it covers:
Now that you have your sheet (and understand how it works), let’s talk about the “how” of keyword research.

How to do Keyword Research (Step-by-Step Guide)

There are a ton of different ways to do that (check the “further readings” at the end of this section for a detailed rundown).
Our favorite method, however, is as follows…
Start off by listing out your top 5 SEO competitors.
The key here is SEO competitors - competing companies that have a strong SEO presence in the same niche.
Not sure who’s a good SEO competitor? Google the top keywords that describe your product and find your top-ranking competitors.
Run them through SEMrush (or your favorite SEO tool), and you’ll see how well, exactly, they’re doing with their SEO.
Once you have a list of 5 competitors, run each of them through “Organic Research” on SEMrush, and you'll get a complete list of all the keywords they rank on.
Now, go through these keywords one by one and extract all the relevant ones and add them to your sheet.
Once you go through the top SEO competitors, your keyword research should be around 80%+ done.
Now to put some finishing touches on your keyword research, run your top keywords through UberSuggest and let it do its magic. It's going to give you a bunch of keywords associated with the keywords you input.
Go through all the results it's going to give you, extract anything that’s relevant, and your keyword research should be 90% done.
At this point, you can call it a day and move on to the next step. Chances are, over time, you’ll uncover new keywords to add to your sheet and get you to that sweet 100%.

Step #3 - Create SEO Landing Pages

Remember how we collected a bunch of landing page keywords in step #2? Now it’s time to build the right page for each of them! This step is a lot more straightforward than you’d think. First off, you create a custom landing page based on the keyword. Depending on your niche, this can be done in 2 ways:
  1. Create a general template landing page. Pretty much copy-paste your landing page, alter the sub-headings, paraphrase it a bit, and add relevant images to the use-case. You’d go with this option if the keywords you’re targeting are very similar to your main use-case (e.g. “project management software” “project management system”).
  2. Create a unique landing page for each use-case. You should do this if each use-case is unique. For example, if your software doubles as project management software and workflow management software. In this case, you’ll need two completely new landing pages for each keyword.
Once you have a bunch of these pages ready, you should optimize them for their respective keywords.
You can do this by running the page content through an SEO tool. If you’re using WordPress, you can do this through RankMath or Yoast SEO.
Both tools will give you exact instructions on how to optimize your page for the keyword.
If you’re not using WordPress, you can use SurferSEO. Just copy-paste your web page content, and it’s going to give you instructions on how to optimize it.
Once your new landing pages are live, you need to pick where you want to place them on your website. We usually recommend adding these pages to your website’s navigation menu (header) or footer.
Finally, once you have all these new landing pages up, you might be thinking “Now what? How, and when, are these pages going to rank?”
Generally, landing pages are a tad harder to rank than content. See, with content, quality plays a huge part. Write better, longer, and more informative content than your competition, and you’re going to eventually outrank them even if they have more links.
With landing pages, things aren’t as cut and dry. More often than not, you can’t just “create a better landing page.”
What determines rankings for landing page keywords are backlinks. If your competitors have 400 links on their landing pages, while yours has 40, chances are, you’re not going to outrank them.

Step #4 - Create SEO Blog Content

Now, let’s talk about the other side of the coin: content keywords, and how to create content that ranks.
As we mentioned before, these keywords aren’t direct-intent (the Googler isn’t SPECIFICALLY looking for your product), but they can still convert pretty well. For example, if you’re a digital marketing agency, you could rank on keywords like…
After all, anyone looking to learn about lead gen techniques might also be willing to pay you to do it for them.
On top of this, blog post keywords are way easier to rank for than your landing pages - you can beat competition simply by creating significantly better content without turning it into a backlink war.In order to create good SEO content, you need to do 2 things right:
  1. Create a comprehensive content outline
  2. Get the writing part right
Here’s how each of these work...

How to Create a Content Outline for SEO

A content outline is a document that has all the info on what type of information the article should contain Usually, this includes:
Outlines are useful if you’re working with a writing team that isn’t 100% familiar with SEO, allowing them to write content that ranks without any SEO know-how.
At the same time, even if you’re the one doing the writing, an outline can help you get a top-down idea of what you should cover in the article.
So, how do you create an outline? Here’s a simplified step-by-step process…
  1. Determine the target word count. Rule of thumb: aim for 1.5x - 2x whatever your competitor wrote. You can disregard this if your competition was super comprehensive with their content, and just go for the same length instead.
  2. Create a similar header structure as your competition. Indicate for the writer which headers should be h2, which ones h3.
  3. For each header, mention what it’s about. Pro tip - you can borrow ideas from the top 5 ranking articles.
  4. For each header, explain what, exactly, should the writer mention (in simple words).
  5. Finally, do some first-hand research on Reddit and Quora. What are the questions your target audience has around your topic? What else could you add to the article that would be super valuable for your customers?

How to Write Well

There’s a lot more to good content than giving an outline to a writer. Sure, they can hit all the right points, but if the writing itself is mediocre, no one’s going to stick around to read your article.
Here are some essential tips you should keep in mind for writing content (or managing a team of writers):
  1. Write for your audience. Are you a B2B enterprise SaaS? Your blog posts should be more formal and professional. B2C, super-consumer product? Talk in a more casual, relaxed fashion. Sprinkle your content with pop culture references for bonus points!
  2. Avoid fluff. Every single sentence should have some sort of value (conveying information, cracking a joke, etc.). Avoid beating around the bush, and be as straightforward as possible.
  3. Keep your audience’s knowledge in mind. For example, if your audience is a bunch of rocket scientists, you don’t have to explain to them how 1+1=2.
  4. Create a writer guideline (or just steal ours! -> edit: sorry had to remove link due to posting guidelines)
  5. Use Grammarly and Hemingway. The first is like your personal pocket editor, and the latter helps make your content easier to read.
  6. Hire the right writers. Chances are, you’re too busy to write your own content. We usually recommend using ProBlogger or Cult of Copy Job Board (Facebook Group) to source top writing talent.

Step #5 - Start Link-Building Operations

Links are essential if you want your content or web pages to rank.
If you’re in a competitive niche, links are going to be the final deciding factor on what ranks and what doesn’t.
In the VPN niche, for example, everyone has good content. That’s just the baseline. The real competition is in the backlinks.
To better illustrate this example, if you Google “best VPN,” you’ll see that all top-ranking content pieces are almost the same thing. They’re all:
So, the determining factor is links. If you check all the top-ranking articles with the Moz Toolbar Extension, you’ll see that on average, each page has a minimum of 300 links (and some over 100,000!).
Meaning, to compete, you’ll really need to double-down on your link-building effort.
In fact, in the most competitive SEO niches, it’s not uncommon to spend $20,000 per month on link-building efforts alone.

Pro Tip
Got scared by the high $$$ some companies spend on link-building? Well, worry not!
Only the most ever-green niches are so competitive. Think, VPN, make money online, health and fitness, dating, CBD, gambling, etc. So you know, the usual culprits.
For most other niches, you can even rank with minimal links, as long as you have top-tier SEO content.
Now, let’s ask the million-dollar question: “how do you do link-building?”

4 Evergreen Link Building Strategies for Any Website

There are a TON of different link building strategies on the web. Broken link building, scholarship link building, stealing competitor links, and so on and so on and so on.
We’re not going to list every single link building strategy out there (mainly because Backlinko already did that in their link building guide).
What we are going to do, though, is list out some of our favorite strategies, and link you to resources where you can learn more:
  1. Broken link building. You find dead pages with a lot of backlinks, reach out to websites that linked to them, and pitch them something like “hey, you linked to this article, but it’s dead. We thought you’d want to fix that. You can use our recent article if you think it’s cool enough.”
  2. Guest posting. Probably the most popular link building strategy. Find blogs that accept guest posts, and send them a pitch! They usually let you include 1-2 do-follow links back to your website.
  3. Linkable asset” link building. A linkable asset is a resource that is so AWESOME that you just can’t help but link to. Think, infographics, online calculators, first-hand studies or research, stuff like that. The tl;dr here is, you create an awesome resource, and promote the hell out of it on the web.
  4. Skyscraper technique. The skyscraper technique is a term coined by Backlinko. The gist of it is, you find link-worthy content on the web, create something even better, and reach out to the right people.
Most of these strategies work, and you can find a ton of resources on the web if you want to learn more.
However, if you’re looking for something a bit different, oh boy we have a treat for you! We’re going to teach you a link-building strategy that got us around:
...And so much more, all through a single blog post.

Link-Building Case Study: SaaS Marketing

“So, what’s this ancient link-building tactic?”
I hear you asking. It must be something super secretive and esoteric, right?
Secrets learned straight from the link-building monks at an ancient SEO temple…
“Right?”
Well, not quite.
The tactic isn’t something too unusual - it’s pretty famous on the web. This tactic comes in 2 steps:
  1. Figure out where your target audience hangs out (create a list of the channels)
  2. Research the type of content your audience loves
  3. Create EPIC content based on that research (give TONS of value)
  4. Promote the HELL out of it in the channels from step 1
Nothing too new, right?
Well, you’d be surprised how many people don’t use it.
Now, before you start throwing stones at us for overhyping something so simple, let’s dive into the case study:
How we PR’d the hell out of our guide to SaaS marketing (can't add a link, but it's on our blog and it's 14k words long), and got 10k+ traffic as a result.
A few months back when we launched our blog, we were deciding on what our initial content should be about.
Since we specialize in helping SaaS companies acquire new users, we decided to create a mega-authority guide to SaaS marketing (AND try to get it to rank for its respective keyword).
We went through the top-ranking content pieces, and saw that none of them was anything too impressive.
Most of them were about general startup marketing strategies - how to validate your MVP, find a product-market fit, etc.
Pretty “meh,” if you ask us. We believe that the #1 thing founders are looking for when Googling “saas marketing” are practical channels and tactics you can use to acquire new users.
So, it all started off with an idea: create a listicle of the top SaaS marketing tactics out there:
  1. How to create good content to drive users
  2. Promote your content
  3. Rank on Google
  4. Create viral infographics
  5. Create a micro-site
...and we ended up overdoing it, covering 41+ different tactics and case studies and hitting around 14k+ words.
On one hand, oops! On the other hand, we had some pretty epic content on our hands. We even added the Smart Content Filter to make the article much easier to navigate.
Once the article was up, we ran it through some of our clients, friends, and acquaintances, and received some really good feedback.
So, now we knew it was worth promoting the hell out of it.
We came up with a huge list of all online channels that would appreciate this article:
  1. entrepreneur and startups (hi guys!). The first ended up loving the post, netting us ~600 upboats and a platinum medal. The latter also ended up loving the post, but the mods decided to be assholes and remove it for being “self-promotional.” So, despite the community loving the content, it got axed by the mods. Sad. (Fun fact - this one time we tried to submit another content piece on startups with no company names, no links back to our website, or anything that can be deemed promotional. One of the mods removed it for mentioning a link to Ahrefs. Go figure!)
  2. Hacker News. Tons of founders hang out on HN, so we thought they’d appreciate anything SaaS-related. This netted us around ~200+ upvotes and some awesome feedback (thanks HN!)
  3. Submit on Growth Hackers, Indie Hackers, and all other online marketing communities. We got a bunch of love on Indie Hackers, the rest were quite inactive.
  4. Reach out to all personal connects + clients and ask for a share
  5. Run Facebook/Twitter ads. This didn’t particularly work out too well for us, so we dropped it after 1-2 weeks.
  6. Run a Quuu promotion. If you haven’t heard of Quuu, it’s a platform that matches people who want their content to be shared, with people who want their social media profiles running on 100% auto-pilot. We also got “meh” results here - tons of shares, next to no likes or link clicks.
  7. Promoted in SaaS and marketing Facebook groups. This had awesome results both in terms of traffic, as well as making new friends, AND getting new leads.
  8. Promoted in entrepreneur Slack channels. This worked OK - didn’t net us traffic, but got us some new friends.
  9. Emailed anyone we mentioned in the article and asked for a share. Since we mentioned too many high profile peeps and not enough non-celebs, this didn’t work out too well
  10. Emailed influencers that we thought would like the article / give it a share. They didn’t. We were heart-broken.
And accordingly, created a checklist + distribution sheet with all the websites or emails of people we wanted to ping.
Overall, this netted us around 12,000 page views in total, 15+ leads, 6,000 traffic in just 2 promotion days.
As for SEO results, we got a bunch of links. (I would have added screenshots to all of these results, but don't think this subreddit allows it).
A lot of these are no-follow from Reddit, HackerNews, and other submission websites, but a lot of them are also pretty authentic.
The cool part about this link-building tactic is that people link to you without even asking. You create awesome content that helps people, and you get rewarded with links, shares, and traffic!
And as for the cherry on top, only 2 months after publishing the article, it’s ranking on position #28. We’re expecting it to get to page 1 within the new few months and top 3 within the year.

Step #6 - Interlink Your Pages

One of Google's ranking factors is how long your visitors stick around on your website.
So, you need to encourage users reading ONE article, to read, well, the rest of them (or at least browse around your website). This is done through interlinking.
The idea is that each of your web pages should be linked to and from every other relevant page on your site.
Say, an article on "how to make a resume" could link to (and be linked from) "how to include contact info on a resume," "how to write a cover letter," "what's the difference between a CV and a resume," and so on.
Proper interlinking alone can have a significant impact on your website rankings. NinjaOutreach, for example, managed to improve their organic traffic by 40% through better interlinking alone.
So, how do you do interlinking “right?”
First off, make it a requirement for your writers to link to the rest of your content. Add a clause to your writer guidelines that each article should have 10+ links to your other content pieces.
More often than not, they’ll manage to get 60-70% of interlinking opportunities. To get this to 100%, we usually do bi-annual interlinking runs. Here’s how that works.
Pick an article you want to interlink. Let’s say, for example, an article on 'business process management'.
The goal here is to find as many existing articles on your blog, where ‘business process management’ is mentioned so that we can add a link to the article.
Firstly, Google the keyword ‘business process management’ by doing a Google search on your domain. You can use the following query:
site:yourwebsite.com "keyword"
In our case, that’s:
site:example.com “business process management”
You’ll get a complete list of articles that mention the keyword “business process management.
Now, all you have to do is go through each of these, and make sure that the keyword is hyperlinked to the respective article!
You should also do this for all the synonyms of the keyword for this article. For example, “BPM” is an acronym for business process management, so you’d want to link this article there too.

Step #7 - Track & Improve Your Headline CTRs

Article CTRs play a huge role in determining what ranks or not.
Let’s say your article ranks #4 with a CTR of 15%. Google benchmarks this CTR with the average CTR for the position.
If the average CTR for position #4 is 12%, Google will assume that your article, with a CTR of 15% is of high quality, and will reward you with better rankings.
On the other hand, if the average CTR is 18%, Google will assume that your article isn’t as valuable as other ranking content pieces, and will lower your ranking.
So, it’s important to keep track of your Click Through Rates for all your articles, and when you see something that’s underperforming, you can test different headlines to see if they’ll improve CTR.
Now, you’re probably wondering, how do you figure out what’s the average CTR?
Unfortunately, each search result is different, and there's no one size fits all formula for average CTR.
Over the past few years, Google has been implementing a bunch of different types of search results - featured snippet, QAs, and a lot of other types of search results.
So, depending on how many of these clutter and the search results for your given keyword, you’ll get different average CTRs by position.
Rule of thumb, you can follow these values:
Keep in mind these change a lot depending on your industry, PPC competitiveness, 0-click searches, etc...
Use a scraping tool like Screaming Frog to extract the following data from all your web pages:
Delete all the pages that aren’t meant to rank on Google. Then, head over to Google Search Console and extract the following data for all the web pages:
Add all of this data to a spreadsheet.
Now, check what your competition is doing and use that to come up with new headline ideas. Then, put them in the Title Ideas cell for the respective keyword.
For each keyword, come up with 4-5 different headlines, and implement the (seemingly) best title for each article.
Once you implement the change, insert the date on the Date Implemented column. This will help you keep track of progress.
Then, wait for around 3 - 4 weeks to see what kind of impact this change is going to have on your rankings and CTR.
If the results are not satisfactory, record the results in the respective cells, and implement another test for the following month. Make sure to update the Date Implemented column once again.

Step #8 - Keep Track of Rankings & Make Improvements On-The-Go

You’re never really “done” with SEO - you should always keep track of your rankings and see if there’s any room for improvement.
If you wait for an adequate time-frame after publishing a post (6 months to a year) and you’re still seeing next to no results, then it might be time to investigate.
Here’s what this usually looks like for us:
...And that's it.
Hope you guys had a good read and learned a thing or two :) HMU if you have any questions.
If you want to read the full version in a more reader-friendly format, you can check out our SEO process blog post here.

[Let's Build] 1d100 Roommate shenanigans that happen while a ship is traveling FTL

Hey gang! I'm starting a far future sci fi campaign pretty soon and I'd like to add some flavor and RP to FTL travel instead of "seven days pass, you arrive in the system" when there's nothing prepared for the transit. I'm pulling inspiration from the living arrangements of Star Trek, where the personal lives of the characters had a presence in the show during less dangerous times.
Assume FTL transit time is between one and fourteen days, so a handful of people sharing a flat together for that long without going outside (not relatable at all). They all have their own rooms and private bathrooms.
Update 1: This is great stuff guys! Keep it up! Loving it. Update 2: Almost there! Thank you everyone for your submissions so far!
  1. One of the crew is cooking cuisine from their home planet. Another crewmate is allergic to some of the ingredients.
  2. One of the crew is allergic to the pet someone else just picked up from the last planet.
  3. Someone didn't do their chore assigned from the ship chore wheel.
  4. Someone is doing one of their hobbies in the crew rec area. I didn't know you played trombone!
  5. A way to celebrate a holiday for one crewmate is totally different for anothethe rest of the crew. You mean you guys don't eat breakfast for dinner on Christmas???
  6. Someone keeps using up all of the group's allotted holodeck time.
  7. A crew member wants to test a new ai system for the first time...It's got some bugs.
  8. Someone didn't know how to make popcorn. Everything now smells like burnt popcorn.
  9. Someone clogged their toilet and now needs to share with another crewmate.
  10. Character A considers themselves pretty good at a certain board/card game. Character B is fascinated by their skills and asks to be taught. Turns out, B is getter at the game than A.
  11. "You've never had [food] before?!"
  12. One of the aliens doesn't know about hair dye and freaks out when the local human starts losing their color.
  13. Surprise room inspection! Why is one being held? What do the inspectors find?
  14. One of the aliens gets really jazzed about a human religious holiday and it makes people simultaneously flattered and uncomfortable.
  15. "What do you mean [rare chemical] is toxic to [target species]?! My roommate is a [said species]! I've been using it all day!"
  16. The group is trading traditional and cultural horror stories. Some of the members have particularly strong feelings about a couple of the stories.
  17. A small group of crew have decided to throw a dance party in the middle of the recreational room. This is an issue to those who dislike the occasion, and baffles those who don't understand dancing.
  18. A relationship between two crew mates is becoming a bit of an issue.
  19. One of the crew has bought way too hard into an MLM and is peddling their wares to everyone who will listen (and everyone who won't).
  20. Everytime a crewmate is disturbed in their room they're too relaxed. We're talking robe, slippers, essential oils - this crewmate is a chronic, indulgent lounger. THis can be awkward when they need to leave theirr cabin in a hurry, like for emergencies.
  21. Why does this crewmate have restricted military equipment and where did they get it?
  22. The ship is regularly receiving encrypted messages but it's not clear who is reciving them or what they're about. All anyone knows is that the messages are digitally signed by a competitor.
  23. Their pet doesn't really like them and regularly slepes in anyone's quarters it can get into other than its owner's. It is relentless in the early morning when it needs to be let out to pee.
  24. There's a damn space possum somewhere on the ship. It's mostly harmless but rarely detectable except when it chews around an important wire and a system goes down. Sometimes it can be heard scrambling around behind the walls.
  25. All of the furniture in one of the cabins is smashed beyond usability, including the bed. It's not clear if a former or current crewmate is responsible, or if it was damaged in a fit of rage, investigation or raucous party.
  26. The ship likes to play music late at night when it thinks everyone is asleep. The ship's idea of a banging tune sounds more or less like alien ghost whales quietly weeping. Anyone who happens to be up late may begin to believe the ship is haunted.
  27. One of the maintenance droids watches people sleep. This cannot be explained by its programming, or its rudimentary language. What is it thinking?
  28. One of the crew is taking drugs to stay awake for days at a time. It's affecting their job performance but wow do they get a lot of cleaning done!
  29. The, "it's just a prank bro," bro has been setting up borderline dangerous surprises for the other crew and trying to catch their reactions on camera. NOt only is it obnoxious, the vids keep going viral and strangers are starting to recognize the victims.
  30. One of the crewman's culture has a no nudity taboo and they keep forgetting that not everyone feels the same way.
  31. one of the crewman is a compulsive gambler and is constantly betting on everything (or trying to).
  32. One of the crewman notices another crewman has disappeared but no one remembers them and there is no log of them on the ship.
  33. Everyone on the ship has the same dream every night.
  34. For a few days all of the crewman are overtaken with overwhelming feelings of sadness and loss that pass after about 5 minutes.
  35. Jeffery bet he could fit in the vents. He did fit. At least until he got halfway through and is now stuck.
  36. The ship's computer specialist hacks into the ship's computer and programs it to rap all of its responses.
  37. The youngest crew member accidentally locks themselves in the ship's secure vault while trying to avoid chores.
  38. A crewmember is caught with their feet up on the ship's helm, painting their toenails.
  39. Video game tournament!
  40. A crew member regularly plays annoying music in their quarters loud enough that it bothers everyone else.
  41. An extreme version of hide and seek played by two teenagers/preteens slowly gets out of hand. Or maybe it gets the crew divided into team red and blue. Or an alien finds the hand interesting and partakes.
  42. At night you hear two passengers in the neighboring room arguing. Eventually you hear commotion and a thud. One of the roomates is seen an hour later throwing something heavy over board.
  43. Two crew members have obvious crushes on each other and everyone else is trying to get them together. It gets a bit out of hand.
  44. Hoping to increase interest and participation in safety and defense drills, the security chief introduces a new element: NERF guns.
  45. After concerned questions about the amount of time they've been spending in the holodeck, a crewmate finally reveals their magnum opus: a fully realized holodeck emulation of 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons.
  46. Two crewmates who hail from planets with rich improvisational poetic traditions decide to square off and find out who is best. EPIC RAP BATTLE!
  47. In accordance with the traditions of their people, a crewmate is writing their will. This process chiefly takes the form of an auction, where their friends and family bid for the right of first refusal on their personal items and property; on death, the winner pays the bid amount to the family and claims the item, or refuses to pay and the item is sold at an estate sale.
  48. During a deep dive into the ship's archives, a crewmate re-discovers a long-dead band, which then becomes a craze on the ship for the next few days. By day 5, even the people who liked it have had their fill.
  49. "There's... something on the wing! Some, HORRIBLE thing!" "Billy, that's just the nacelle, stop messing around."
  50. An alien offhandedly mentions that they deem the material of the ship not only edible but delicious, freaking everyone out.
  51. An infestation of alien vermin is discovered.
  52. Characters stage an intervention for someone due to a problematic behavior.
  53. The food replicators break and no matter what someone asks for, they produce a perfectly made gin martini and a plastic snack food style package of "Lemon Clams" that automatically steam when opened.
  54. The ship's bio-gel computing packs get infected with an alien virus. Mostly harmless but for 48 hours the ship's AI is essentially drunk and/or experiencing hallucinations.
  55. A group of crew members start a secret fight club team in the holodeck after a member of an away team returns with the idol of a planet's god of war.
  56. There are two chefs on the vessel, they're both convinced one is better than the other (in reality they're both very bad but all the ship's got).
  57. One crewmate gives another an alcoholic beverage from their planet that gets them drunk instantly. However, a night's sleep and water doesn't seem to have any effect at sobering them up.
  58. The grav plating polarity is reversed.
  59. The room-mate's Tellurian Stinging Fleas Farm springs a leak on your bed. Thankfully, the room-mate's Poisonous Chekovian Death Adder LOVES eating them, so they set them free without telling you.
  60. The engineer decides it is necessary to use the communal dining area to clean and decontaminate mildly radioactive life-support parts.
  61. The room-mate's cold progresses to full on "Fast-Zombie" cannibalism.
  62. Fingernail clippings, or similar bodily detritus, wind up scattered all over your bunk.
  63. The roommate uses up every bit of sterile gauze from the emergency first aid kits, in order to pretend that their favorite stuffed animal is a mummy; and doesn't tell anyone they did so.
  64. Someone sets ALL the phasers to stun, as a joke.
  65. Short sheeted your bunk, again, and placed fake Tellaxian feces on the pillow. At least, you HOPE it is fake.
  66. Covered the urinal in the refresher-station with clear cling-film and didn't tell anyone as a prank.
  67. Plays "Yanni" every hour of their shift, non-stop, at full volume.
  68. Someone goes overboard with the label maker, and now there is a painted line down the middle of the corridor and half the crew is forbidden from crossing over to the other half, just to keep the peace.
  69. Fills the supplemental emergency oxygen tank of their buddy's space suit with a bit of Nitrous Oxide and Fart Smell.
  70. One of the crew members makes a meal for everyone else. It becomes painfully obvious shortly into the meal that this crew member can't cook. Several of the team end up with stomach aches.
  71. Somebody brings an unauthorized pet back with them from the last away mission. Once onboard, the pet starts reproducing out of control and quickly overtakes most of the ship.
  72. An experiment in the science lab suddenly teleports everyone in the ship exactly 1 centimeter in a random direction. Ensign Roberts now needs prosthetic feet due to this occurrence, and we won't talk about what happened to Ensign Murphy.
  73. The protein replicators won't stop replicating protein goop that smells like a mixture of sewer gasses and rancid gym socks, despite what settings are used. One crewmember seems to like the taste, and it isn't the one you're thinking of...
  74. One of the crew goes insane, and starts believing that they have mental powers.
  75. One member of the crew REALLY DOES HAVE mental powers, the fact that they can make you explode just by thinking about it, gets around the ship quickly.
  76. One crewmember has been writing a series of holo-sitcoms and secretly using the other crew as templates for characters.
  77. A crew-member starts insisting that this ship and everyone on it, are simply the results of them being trapped on the holodeck.
  78. Literally NOTHING happens. Like one second you are all bored out of your minds, and then BAM you can't remember the last six cycles and more than one of the crew reports waking up in tubs of ice, missing some organs.
  79. The science lab accidentally releases an experimental mixture of alien spores and gaseous mood enhancers; now every fifteen minutes there is a spontaneous musical or dance number happening somewhere on the ship.
  80. Three words: "Quantum Vacuum Spiders." This guy knows what I'm talkin' about, YEAH!!
  81. The Captain decided to add combat-readiness drugs to the water supply to sharpen crew performance. Now the security chief has declared the brig as thier own kingdom and is attacking all challengers.
  82. A security update on the 'droids fails, and suddenly they are all in: "Kill All Humans" mode.
  83. Someone forgets to pay the subscription service for the ship-wide communications network permission license the last time we were docked. Until the ship docks again, we all have to sit through advertisements and take surveys in order to use comms. The advertising song about Tribble-cereal is adorable though!
  84. The Captain has gotten into the habit of ordering the inertial dampeners be taken offline, "in order to get a sense of speed during acceleration". Now we go the same speed, but are crushed into our chairs during the whole trip.
  85. Ever have someone's fart smell so bad you had to vent the whole ship's atmosphere out the airlocks?
  86. Everyone knows it is bad luck to bring bananas on board ship. The last person that did so got thrown out the airlock!
  87. Your roommate won't stop making cruel jokes about "That one alien crew member that totally matches the stereotype for their species."
  88. A crewmember gets drunk and challenges another crewmate with compound eyes to a staring competition. Both wind up in medbay.
  89. It turns out more than half of the crew secretly worship an evil space entity that is slowly warping thier brains with cannibalism, fear, and paranoia. They all keep it secret for fear of being discovered. Then one evil worshiper finds another making a trap in the corridor at the end of shift, and now you're stuck being a contestent in "The Most Dangerous Game" being hunted by the rest of the crew, and possibly the only one not being mind controlled by evil.
  90. There's a new addictive videogame going around that leaves your crewmates as drooling vegetables. You tried it, but didn't see what was so great about it.
  91. Corporate installed pay-toilets on all the refresher units the last time you docked. Now the crew is finding "new" and "inventive" hygiene solutions.
  92. One of the engineering crew discover that corporate has been lowering the oxygen levels in the testing chambers during crew evaluations, "in order to avoid giving raises for performance improvement".
  93. For the duration of FTL, exactly half the crew appears to run backwards in time, with predictable havoc on crew functions and personal relationships. The effect ends as soon as the ship drops out of drift, but neither half of the crew can agree on which half was affected afterwards.
  94. At the last port of call, some orphans snuck aboard. A few crew got caught trying to disguise the kids by having them stand on each other's shoulders inside a resized spacesuit. Spaceman 'Justaguy' will be placed in the brig until the next port of call.
  95. Ensign Ripley receives one demerit for "trying to teach the power loader how to dance" and also one for use of foul language.
  96. The ship is saved after a hull breach is patched with some gravy from the ship's cafeteria. Engineering crewmate Roscoe will be awarded an extra cycle of pay and another food ration for giving up thier "mashed potatoes" during the emergency.
  97. Notice to All Crew: Rumors that the Cafeteria is using Industrial Adhesive as Gravy during Salisbury Steak Night are false.
  98. An anonymous crewmate has doodled waterfowl on every console on the ship. (Who's been drawing ducks?)
  99. A Poker (or other gambling game of your choice) game gets too out of hand and now you got gambling banned on the ship. Good job - you ruined it.
  100. Doctor Hawk made their own homemade distillery out of medical equipment - Major Burnside does not like the mockery of their uniform.

Some minor changes to improve the PT

Don’t get me wrong, I love the prequels, but these are the ideas I have that could make them more next level in my opinion. I’m interested to see what other people think.
So most obviously, there should be no Jar Jar or a very toned down version.
Anakin should be about the same age as Padme in TPM. Still a kid, but old enough that you could get away without recasting and also old enough to have a proper crush on Padme and start planting some small seeds of the dark side. They should develop a close bond by the end of TPM that is friendly and definitely not motherly. Some more specific ideas that could accomplish this:
Having lost a lot of money gambling, Watto is planning to sell Anakin and his mother into dangerous and deadly, manual labor, so Anakin is determined to buy his mother’s freedom. He initiates a deal with Qui Gon to enter the pod race for this reason. They borrow money from the Hutts. Qui Gon wants to free Anakin too, but is unable to come up with the money. He decides to pay Watto the remainder of the winnings from the pod race, and they attempt to sneak away with Anakin, cheating the Hutts in the process. Unfortunately, they are caught and the Hutts demand that they be given what they are owed. Padme ends up selflessly trading a prized and very expensive family heirloom that means a lot to her in order to secure Anakin’s freedom. Anakin gives her that necklace (which in this case was actually given to him by his mother when they said goodbye) as it is the most valuable thing he has to thank her.
Also while on Tatooine, we see Anakin use a Jedi mind trick for a semi-unethical purpose (perhaps getting out of paying for something or some other minor offense). Doing this without ever being taught establishes Anakin as some special prodigy (without some contrived midichlorian BS) and also paves the way for his future mis-use of the force.
Later on Naboo, both Anakin and Padme are left behind when the Jedi go off to fight Maul. R2 does some digging and informs them that he has found out that all the droids are being controlled be one central command ship. Since the rest of their forces are occupied and unreachable, Padme and Anakin decide to give it a go themselves. Anakin flies the ship and Padme manages to shoot down the command ship.
Later, seeing how close they are becoming, Obi Wan warns Anakin that Jedi are not to have attachments and it would probably be best for him to spend less time with Padme.
Also, the senate votes to create a clone army at the end of TPM (because having a secret army that no one knew about is stupid and not believable).
Then episode 2 is largely the same with a few minor changes. Only about 5 years have passed. The first clone troopers are ready, but Padme (who is a newly appointed senator) is still skeptical about the republic having a large standing army. Palpatine suggests that in order to boost her confidence in the new army she go to inspect the clone troopers herself as a representative of the senate. Still not pleased, Padme reluctantly agrees and is accompanied by 2 Jedi (I bet you can guess who).
This time Anakin and Padme have been friends for the past 5 years and he actually acts like a normal person instead of a creepy stalker. They are very flirty from the beginning and clearly both like each other, much to Obi Wan’s displeasure. As a side note, Anakin is still moody and whiny in my version, but it makes more sense for him to be talking to Padme about his issues with Obi Wan since they are actually friends. And besides that, we actually like him enough from the previous movie to give a bit of a pass on it now.
Anyway, they are attacked shortly after leaving Coruscant, an attempt on Padme’s life, and Obi Wan instructs Anakin to accompany Padme into hiding while he tracks down the assassin. Ironically, he traces the assassin to Kamino, his original destination. There he discovers that it was Jango Fett, who is also the template for the clones.
From here on out, everything proceeds pretty much as it does originally but with better, non-creepy dialogue.
Shortly after Geonosis, Obi Wan makes a comment to the Jedi council about how it really doesn’t make sense why the separatists would want Padme dead when she was against the creation of the clone army and the overall war effort. It just doesn’t make any sense. Did they want to provoke the republic into a war? And Yoda is all “Hmm, meditate on this I must. Sense a plot by the dark side, I do.”
And finally episode 3, I change very little about. The dialogue could be cleaned up a bit (though honestly it makes for great memes so I’m not sure I want that) and Anakin does not just slaughter a room full of younglings because honestly that is way out of character. Maybe like one youngling who attacked him first. And we get an actual reason for Padme’s death (I’m thinking the emperor steals her life force).
I’m also thinking there could be some thematic element with Anakin’s robotic hand similar to how Luke looks at his robotic hand and it stops him from killing Darth Vader. Like maybe early on in RotS Anakin is force choking someone (who probably deserves it) but then looks down, sees the cybernetic hand doing it, and lets go. Then the same thing happens again with Padme on Mustafar. But then later on, once he is in the suit, he asks about Padme and one of the imperial officers tells him that she has died. Vader force chokes the man, and this time when he looks down at his hand he tightens his grip, killing the man and it truly seems that the last of Anakin’s humanity has died along with Padme.
So I’m curious what people think. Would this fix most of the problems with the prequels in your opinion? Is there anything you like better the original way?

My 1 Year Anniversary of Full Time Day Trading. 3 Years In The Business. What I Wish I Could Tell Myself Years Ago.

This industry has a lack of transparency so I'm more than happy to say I will provide lots of that throughout this post with screenshots. There are LOTS of imgur links to back what I say so it's not just words on a post expecting you to just believe what I'm typing.
This post I suppose is "Part 2" my post back in April, "After 2 years of Daytrading. 7 months full time. Here's my advice". I'm doing this to update everyone who came/comes across this in the future. Yes, it is possible. No, it won't be easy. You will pay homage to the rite of passage into this career. I'll also provide some examples of styles of trading so for the newer aspiring traders, there will be some things I rarely see discussed on forums. So here's to 1 year of Full Time Day Trading

TL;DR - You'll become desensitized to trading. Stubborn to other strategies (There are biggebaddemore lucrative strategies. Don't chase them. Why fix what's not broken? I know what works for me and I'm content with it. No strategy is better than another. It's a personal choice. ). Losing individual trades won't faze you, they're inevitable. Profiting certainly feels better. After a while, you won't be as enthralled to trade every morning, it'll become just another part of your day). Trading is just managing your money through a statistic and the medium to execute it is trading on your platform. Think: "If. Then. Because". Your trading plan should be that black and white. Ask "Why" for everything you do and use. If you can't answer it with documented results, drop it.

I get a bunch of messages all the time from people asking - . Out of those who follow me and chat me seeking further tips through my previous posts. I'll be answering the FAQ's and addressing things I see frequently in this sub as far as trading axioms
Disclaimer: I won't sugarcoat anything. I'll share my experiences and add pieces of advice I'd give to those who are currently experiencing the same thing becoming a full time day trader and what day to day life is like, the occasional distress, (DRAWDOWNS). Some of you follow my Twitter for the past few months where I post my daily watchlists with a snippet that reveals my DayTradingBuyingPower. I do this not to brag but to demonstrate that the account does yield growth, I pay myself, and there are days where the balance does not move because there was no edge. I also do this since nobody else shows their account performance. (Yes. You, Mr. YouTube gurus and wannabe gurus).
We do this for income, the numbers on our accounts are real. Treat it as such. Get your initial capital out of your account THEN try to "Scale your account" with your profits AKA The Market's Money.

I'll go over:
•FAQ's that I get in my inbox (I'm still welcome to further questions if I don't answer here)
•Decision Fatigue (You will experience this)
•The previous year (2019-2020) of ups and downs
•How to use my watchlists that I post on Twitter in the morning to your advantage
•The pivotal moment that changed my trading career (NFLX 10-17-19)
•The road to becoming a full time trader. (It won't be fun unless you're handed the money)
•You'll have a better grasp of my strategy (Between ProTip 4 and 5. ProTip 8.)

There are 10 "ProTips" throughout the post that I wish I could tell myself years back and I'll periodically throw them in here as the post goes on. I make posts long in order to segregate those serious about this business and those who will just become another statistic in the failure rate of this business.

At the end of this post, I'll go over the frequent questions I receive such as: (Answers to FAQ at bottom of post.)
  1. "How do you prepare for a trading day?"
  2. "What would you go back to tell yourself?"
  3. "Books?" (The most abused question, but I get it. I could start a public library with just trading books I bought over the years)
  4. "What is your background?"
  5. "What is a normal day for you?"
  6. "How did you discover your strategy?"
  7. "What did you do/How did you get started?"
  8. "What is your % return?" (Not a fun question since a trading account is not an index or investment account. Intraday traders do not measure performance in %. Most are measured in "R".)
  9. "Is enough to start trading?"
  10. "Why do you need so many monitors"? (This one is rarely asked but I do see it discussed on platforms and people trading on mobile phones love giving flack to anybody who trades on multiple monitors. Hint: Everyone's different. Whatever works for the individual. There are no rules in trading. The only rule is that it works.)

My story:

Background:
I heard about daytrading during the 2008 crash while in high school. We all want to make more while working less. I entertained day trading from time to time but always realized I never had enough money. Horrible mindset because I could have still researched WHILE saving money to put into my trading business.
2015 - I opened my first trading account with Scottrade while in the Marines. Apparently if you have a net worth of over $1,000,000 you can get out early (Biggest rumor ever).
I frivolously bought crap penny stocks. In short - I was a hair away from gambling. What made it NOT gambling was the fact that at least I owned something tangible (Securities of a company) and anything can happen. Buy low sell high was my strategy. Didn't work obviously. No idea what I was doing. I'd buy and hold hoping to wake up to the stock price being way higher and it never happened.

ProTip #1 : If you hold a trade overnight... It is not daytrading. Stop turning into an investor because you can't admit a minor defeat.

2017 - I started taking this business seriously while working in the oilfield as a Logistics Planner (If you're wondering what company since I am asked this from time to time, Google: "World's largest oilfield services company").
No kids, girlfriend/wife or financial obligations. I worked 10AM - 7PM CST and would trade the open from home for roughly 1 hour. Later I was offered to be a Data Analyst... Only downside was... I couldn't trade since I had to be at work now at 8AM CST during the market open. In the moment of signing the offer letter, I was bummed thinking, "No more trading,"
That wasn't the case though. You can still build your trading business with a 9-5 and while never making one trade. The data is there.

ProTip #2 : We all see the same data. It's there forever. Many strategies show their edge both live and in hindsight the same. (Especially if you trade patterns). You CAN build your business as a trader without even taking a trade. You CAN build your strategy while working a 9-5. Just because you're not trading, does not mean you can't build your business through research. You won't know how you'll react to the losses but at least you can diagnose the raw data with a large enough sample size for assurance and confidence.

If you have a 9-5 and want to go fulltime into this business. Stay for a bit, save, live so far beneath your means that it is almost miserable, (depending on your expenses, area you live, family etc) and get a few hundred sample sizes of your strategy! And for your PTO/days off... trade the open. I sacrificed my vacation days to trade.
After 2 years in corporate America, eating cheap food, never going out, saving relentlessly, I made the decision to just do it and resigned. I went straight into the ring of fire known as trading. That was on: September 23rd, 2019
"" (Sound familiar?)

When you hear these types of comments.. your response should be: "Nobody put the time I put into this. The 90%+ who fail, don't have it all written out, computerized backtests, manual backtests, statistics, SOP manuals, JUST like the job I have which is a business, I'm just another cog in their wheel. I'll just be wearing all the hats in my trading business. Instead of Oil&Gas, it's just for trading". One thing I see here a lot is people saying to trade X amount of months/years or make X.

ProTip #3 - Think in man hours, not calendar. Example:
Trader A puts in 1 hour of study/work/research everyday for 1 year. (365 Hours)
Trader B puts in 12 hours of work every day for 4 months. (~1,450 Hours)
Trader A lives in a major city while Trader B lives in the middle of nowhere. (Think cost of living)
2 totally different living expenses and 2 different calibers of dedication. I'd put my money on Trader B because he put in more man hours. (~1,000 more hours on the clock to be more exact).

ProTip #4 - Have a cushion in your account AND your personal bank account. Having a strategy is great but you won't know entirely if you can fulfill and execute your plan until you experience the ups and downs both short and long term. A strategy is constant over long periods of time... there will be days, weeks, and perhaps a month here and there where you aren't making much money. We hear all the time, "Trade like a casino". Casinos don't make money day after day but the odds are in there favor over the long haul.

Month 1 of full time trading was great:
Immediately after going full time, the first month (September 2019 to October 2019), I did super well. Business as usual. No stress. Everything going as planned. No turbulence. At least not like I had ever experienced...

The 2 prerequisites I had before resigning was:
  1. Show consistency in returns. Consistent Sharpe Ratio.
  2. Make a 4 figure trade (I achieved this while short 100 shares on ROKU September 20th, 2019 and even made a victory post if you scroll down my profile's posts.)

First life-changing trading lesson learned as a full time trader:
That money printing spree ended on NFLX October 17th, 2019. Less than 1 month of being a full time trader. Deviating and going against my plan I actually made $500 in a matter of 4 minutes. If you follow my watchlists on Twitter, I always trade with the direction of the gap. If I notate, "Long Watches" that means I will only trade it IF (and only IF) I see a long biased pattern. Likewise I will only be looking to short my "Short Watches". Plenty of times I'll call out a ticker and it immediately goes the other way. No harm no foul because there was no long biased pattern to confirm my thesis.
On 10-17-2019, I went against my plan and it worked.. NFLX gapped up to resistance and I went short when it tanked off of a short pattern.(This is known as fading). The market gave me a free lunch and then some. So now I'm walking on air in my mind:
"I'm an absolute unit"
"I'll do it again and clear another $500 to make it a 4 figure day before 9:30AM Central"
"Should have quit my job way earlier being this good."
Within 30 minutes of the open. I gave all $500 back. Yes I wanted to trade it back. Never have I had the desire to smash anything but I do understand those who do! Yes I stood there and felt like each passing second was wasted opportunity. The next 24 hours were long!

ProTip #5: It's circumstances like that that help you in the long run. FunFact: I never once deviated from my plan since. Not ever again.

"I could have paid for my groceries and electric for the month after 4 minutes of trading if I just took the free pass the market gave me" I felt dumb but in hindsight, I'm glad at what happened. It was this exact instance that married me to my strategy/business plan. The next day and the 7 trading days following. I didn't make 1 profiting trade. My longest ever drawdown - 11 straight trades. While researching I found out this was Decision Fatigue (I'll go over this shortly below)

Put yourself in that situation...
You have bills and your income is strictly trading. I don't care how much a robot you think you are or how strongly you believe in probabilities, when you were in an office less than a month ago making almost 6 figures sitting in an air conditioned office knowing direct deposit is on its way every other Friday no matter how well or poorly you performed at work.. Now you're in the hot seat. Its a bottomless feeling. Now all of your friends and families words are ringing in your head.
But just like a boxing match.. you gotta take a hit to get a hit. Win some, lose some, shake hands and get back to normal life. Water under the bridge.
Mind you:
•No guaranteed direct deposit every 2 weeks.
•No more medical/dental insurance.
•401K retirement is no longer being matched.

11 trades is nothing. You only require ~5.5 trades at 2:1RRR to make it back OR 3.5 trades at 3:1RRR. It's nothing especially in your research because you can easily just scroll a little more and see, "Oh that's just a drawdown. No big deal". How will you react in real time? Will you buckle or choke? But the thing is, I was skipping trades out of fear and JUST so happened to be picking all of the unsuccessful ones. (Decision Fatigue)
Think about those 2 weeks of being in a drawdown. Half of the month. You're not just stagnant, your account is bleeding slowly but surely. Next time you're looking at your spreadsheet/backtest/predictive model/research.. try to put yourself in those days of drawdown. It's not just 11 boxes of red with "-1R" or "Loss" in them. The screenshot above on Imgur is just a recent example.
Think about your daily routine, going to the gym, hanging with friends, grocery shopping, cooking, going to bed, waking up, doing a routine, then losing again.. and again.. and again. Try to think of life during those 300+ hours (Weekends too) of, "I haven't made money. I've lost money. And I still have bills. After paying them, I'll be closer to my set Risk of Ruin".
Here's a lesson you won't learn before going fulltime but I'll do my best to emphasize it here:
Pick a strategy. And stick with it. It can literally be anything. Don't spread yourself thin watching 20+ tickers and be a jack of all patterns/tickers. Be a master of 1 pattern and master of 1 circumstance. There's this real thing called "Decision Fatigue" which explains exactly why what happened.. happened. The article explains that the 2 outcomes of this mental strain known as "Decision Fatigue" is:
  1. Risky Decision-Making
  2. Decision Avoidance
Sound familiar? Does it kind of make sense now? As a new trader you have YouTube, Facebook, StockTwits, Twitter, "gurus", books recommended on Amazon, all throwing their ideas/strategies around, the market has opportunities littered all over.. Decision Fatigue is inevitable for the unprepared. Decision Fatigue happens in every profession. If you mess up at your 9-5, its just a blunder, your paycheck will remain the same. Just a slap on the wrist and move on. With trading, you make a mistake.. it's less food on your table, lights don't stay on, and/or water isn't running. That pressure adds up. No wonder so many fail...
The signs of Decision Fatigue:
•Procrastination.
•Impulsivity.
•Avoidance.
•Indecision.
When you find what clicks with you AND its either statistically or performance proven, have the courage to risk a healthy sum of your capital into it. There are strategies/patterns/styles of trading littered all over the internet:
Very broad example:
"IF circumstance happens THEN "Execution". Stoploss is XYZ. Target is XYZ. BECAUSE over a series of Y trades, I will make $X,XXX.xx".

ProTip #6 : Strategies are all over the internet. It's your account/money, backtest it. People share their strategies here all the time and although I don't agree with them because I know what works for me, it's something to chew off of for you newer traders. YouTube is a harbor with people who give just enough info to figure their style out. You will lose trades. Sit for some screen-time and pay homage to the edge that you discover. All in due time.

Insert key metrics and find correlations. This is how you create checks and balances to create/formulate a black and white trading plan. When I first started doing this, my spreadsheet(s) had so many columns it was annoying and would kill my desire to continue working. You'll find things that are imperative and some that are unimportant. For a lack of more colorful terms: "Throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks" Trim the fat. Rinse and repeat.

Here's some things I used to remind myself of and perhaps it'll ring some bells for you:

Surrender your capital to your edge. If you truly accept the risk and trust your proven edge, losses don't feel like anything nor do profits. Although we're not here to put on losing trades and yes it does feel nice to profit. I still from time to time will excited when I hit target after a series of multiple profiting trades depending on my mood.
If you're nervous or your heart starts beating quicker when you hear the sound effect of a trade getting entered/filled. Be honest with yourself and ask yourself if you're truly accepting the risk.
Things you can't take to the bank:
  1. RRR.
  2. Win-Rate
  3. Number of trades.
  4. "This one great trade that I hit target in less than 30 seconds and I got filled better than expected"
All of these are integral metrics. But you're trading to make money. It's up or down, green or red, profit or loss, TRUE or FALSE. So with that said, find what works flawlessly and is easy to follow. Checks and Balances. Then allocate a good sum of risk into it. I read it here all the time, "Don't risk too much" and that's great and true for new traders. But don't sell yourself short. Push yourself over the edge and admit that you know your stuff. Think of Trader A and Trader B. If you've put the time in.. don't sell yourself short. You've built enough courage to learn a business so many fail at. This business has such a negative connotation. But remember that not everybody can handle meritocracies and that's exactly what the market is. Don't try to be the best, just work harder than everyone else and the output of your input will be relative.

ProTip #7: YouTube trading ads from gurus... they're subconsciously making you think you're a novice trader. It's in their marketing. They study marketing psychology. The EASIEST things to sell:
  1. Health
  2. Wealth
  3. Happiness
People that are desperate for those things are the most vulnerable and these "Traders" marketers are fantastic at portraying all 3 of those things at once.

ProTip #8 (Broken record alert) : Write a business plan. Your strategy shouldn't take longer than 4 sentences to explain to another trader. When you have a plan that's proven through a statistic and WAIT for it to happen, you feel 100X better taking the trade. You don't even care too much when it results in a loss. Because that was your plan, you accept it much better, and you know it was just an expense for a winning trade.

Want my strategy? "I scan for stocks with a market cap of over 250M, 10k shares premarket, gapping to support or resistance, priced over $10, and I look for a pattern biased to the direction of the overnight gap. It isn't rocket science. Check my Twitter, look at the dates I posted, and you'll notice the gist. Yes this is an edge but not the entire edge. How fast can you sift through 15 time frames? How long does it take you to fill out your order ticket? Your Fibonacci time extensions with 5 EMA's and Bollinger Bands aren't helping you. They're lagging. If they work for you, great. In my experience, they hindered my visibility.

Pro Tip #9: Yes statistics are highly applicable to trading. Patterns do work. All patterns do is tell you WHEN to enteexit, and how many shares. Humans will never think differently of money. Be the frontrunner of the market's emotions. Nobody remembers the indecisive leader. Risk taking is a commonality amongst leaders. Trading requires courage and it's O.K. to show a bit of confidence as long as you also have the humility to admit when you're in a bad trade. (Notice how I didn't put, "wrong". You're only "wrong" when you deviate from a proven strategy.)

ProTip #10: Risk management is 24/7. I've never heard anyone mention this but think about it a little bit. Having financial obligations can become stressful regardless of how you earn your income but its far more stressful while running a business. Not just any business, but a business where you can go to work on your A-game, do every single last thing right, trade without emotion etc... and still walk away with less money than what you came to work with. Meanwhile somebody who JUST started trading made a 4 figure profit not knowing what the heck the difference between ETB, HTB, or NTB. Think of it like this, a JV high school baseball player can hit a homerun off of an MLB pitcher once.. but how will he fare at the end of the season? Traders don't predict stock prices, traders predict the outcome over hundreds of trades. People chat me asking what TO do rather than what NOT to do. You don't learn labor intensive jobs or how to fly a plane by what to do.. you learn what NOT to do to stay alive.

That's all I have. Once you have a trading plan underway and you're executing it, you don't have much time when your hobbies are cheap but I still do respond to chats/messages. I do get asked from a previous post when I'll build a website and to answer that: I'm learning how to build a site on rainy days. Can't put a definitive date on it. I will say that its coming, if you don't give up on this business in the next year or so, you'll see it. What I plan on putting on there:
  1. RiskReward Calculators
  2. Position size Calculators
  3. EV Calculator
  4. Dictionary with examples
I just don't want some generic WordPress site. I want my website to be stellar and a great resource for aspiring traders. Something I didn't have learning this business. I want it to be something I'd consider a staple in a trader's resources. Perhaps one day it will be referenced on this sub frequently.
FAQ:
  1. "How do you prepare for a trading day?" I get behind the computer about 20 minutes before the bell. Reason being: "If you study long. You'll study wrong". If the chart isn't grabbing my attention and gets me excited, then I flick to the next ticker. I don't even know the companies I trade half the time nor do I care about a news report some journalist wrote. Also there is no magic news outlet that lets you know about "Major events that affect stock prices". If there was, I wouldn't be here because we're all subscribed to the same edge nor would I be trading my style.
  2. "What would you go back to tell yourself?" Get more data. Save a little more, your hairline and sleep schedule will thank you. Take only perfect trades and don't feel forced to trade. There will be days you don't touch an order ticket. And days where you are busy and have tunnel vision. Next thing you know its time to shut it down for the day.
  3. "Books?" - I try to humble myself when answering this but off the cuff, they're all mediocre. Andrew Aziz's was ok, definitely get it, it's only a few bucks on Kindle. Just don't expect it to give you strategies BUT it will give you ideas. If you're brand new, it is good as it will teach you the common vernacular of a day trader. Mark Douglas was interesting but his YouTube seminar recordings are much better. No book, Facebook group, YouTube channel is going to be the end all be all perfect strategy. Expect losses. Don't be a one hitter quitter after suffering a few tiny losses/paper cuts. Stick to it. Most books will help you familiarize yourself with the common vocabulary amongst traders and will hint ideas. It's your job to formulate the strategy and template for research.
  4. "What is your background?" I was a logistics planner for a major oilfield services company. Later I then became a data/buyer analyst so yes, data analytics/research was a 2nd language for me entering trading. I did have that upper hand and did shave off months if not years for me.
  5. "What is a normal day for you?" I'm always done trading after 10:30AM Central. I will hold onto a trade until right before the bell if it hasn't hit either target or StopLoss by the time I leave the house but it is absolutely closed in entirety by 2:55PM Central. After I trade, I enjoy the day. No I'm not riding around in my Lambos posting IG/Snapchat (I have neither) stories of my profits with my private jet waiting on a runway trying to sell an $7 eBook or a $100 membership (HINT HINT). I grill/cook, read, workout, ride my motorcycle, attack my other sources of income (small businesses I'm building), hit the driving range, shoot guns, etc. I live in Texas. Life is cheap and fun here.
  6. "How did you discover your strategy?" I bought TradeIdeas premium, went through all of their computerized backtesting patterns, tested them. Then did what I mentioned earlier... Tried to find correlations in metrics. It distilled the trades to a strict criteria and here I am. I post on average 4-5 tickers on my watchlist. 7 max. I do not like spreading my attention thin across multiple tickers. I do not recommend buying TradeIdeas, it does have lots of bugs.
  7. "What did you do/How did you get started?" Was a data analyst, was good at research and applied it to trading. My incentive was, "I could have made more money trading rather than sitting in 2+ hours of roundtrip traffic and 9 hours in an office. The data is there. Everybody sees the same charts all over the world. There are ways to make this possible"
  8. "What is your % return?" (Not a fun question since a trading account is not an index or investment account. Intraday traders do not measure performance in %) I trade to make money AND pay myself, so my equity curve will look like a small loss or small gain after I pay myself. % return? I measure my account's performance in Sharpe Ratio and Risk Units. My Sharpe Ratio is ~1.85. While I yield roughly .8 - 1 R per trading day. Some weeks I make 10R. Some weeks I lose 2R. Yeah one week I might make $2,500. But the next week I might lose $300. The following week my strategy will yield $0 and the last week I might make $1,000. Some weeks suck. Some weeks are great. But overall. Just shy of 1R per trading day. Some days I'm super busy taking trade after trade. Some days I'll shut it down after 5 minutes without even filling out an order ticket. Some days I won't even see the open because there is no edge for me.. Keywords... "For me".
  9. "Is enough to start trading?" Depends on where you live. Are you restricted to PDT? If not then how much are you obligated to expenses? I live in Texas. Things are cheap here. If you live in NYC or The Bay Area your expenses will be astronomical compared to mine. A $30,000 account is totally doable for a single Texan with low monthly expenses. Now if you're in California or New York? I'm sure you'll fall below 25k if you have 1 bad month. Also depends on if you have other sources of income or a full/part time job. I encourage every trader and aspiring trader to have multiple sources of income, don't rely solely on trading. Not just for the sake of mitigating pressure but also for sanity. If you have a family to provide for, I don't know what that's like, you never know when Little Johnny is going to randomly pick up Trombone lessons for a school program/play while little Suzie needs transmission work in her car because a simple solenoid went out. $1,700 later.
  10. "Why do you need so many monitors?" I use 3 for trading. The 4th is for music. The other 2 are useless while trading. That's for trading though. When I made the decision to go full time, I knew I was about to go off the chain with research. And sifting between spreadsheets, a platform to see multiple timeframes for a pattern to backtest. My attention span is short, I'll lose my train of thought before I open the other tab to input data. But the main reason was for research. It's such a time saver and is a headache repellant when doing research while everything is laid out in front of you. Now that I have a system. I'll most likely be treating myself to 2 ultrawides for Christmas.
As always, thank you to everybody who takes time out to message me and letting me know some people read these and show appreciation. I would say, "Good luck" but there is no luck in trading. Just statistics. Remember that!
In conclusion: Yes. Full time trading is possible, depending where you live/monthly expenses and obligations. You're more likely to become a profitable trader than a professional athlete. There is a level of uncertainty each day, perhaps each week, doubtful each month, and definitely not each year. If I ever want a raise, I just consult my business plan and financials, then decide if I can handle it mentally. If you have medical issues, get a part time job for the benefits. If you're healthy, just be careful.

All the best!

Offseason Blueprint: It may feel like the sky is falling for the Milwaukee Bucks, but they're still in rare air right now

The playoffs continue to rage on, but there are 25 teams sitting at home with nothing to do but twiddle their thumbs, tinker with their fantasy football teams, and wait for next season to start.
For their sake, we wanted to look ahead with the next edition of the OFFSEASON BLUEPRINT series. In each, we'll preview some big decisions and make some recommendations for plans of attack along the way. Today, we're looking at the Milwaukee Bucks.
step one: plug your ears and get back to work
There's no getting around it: the 2019-20 playoffs were a disaster for the Milwaukee Bucks. This was a team that had been # 1 all year in terms of win record, SRS, defensive rating, etc. Consider this. Their +10.1 point differential in the regular season was the best in the entire NBA by a margin of 3.7 (next best was +6.4). That means their point differential was 58% better than the next closest team. Based on all that, losing 4-1 in the second round feels like an abject failure, regardless of whether Giannis Antetokounmpo was hobbled or not, and regardless of whether the Miami Heat were a "tough matchup" or not. Championship teams need to leap past those hurdles on their way to the finish line.
What's more concerning from Bucks' fans perspective is how familiar this all must feel. Forget Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (who won the title before his exit), because younger fans won't remember that period anyway. However, all of us can look around at recent history and feel some sense of deja vu.
Primarily, I'm thinking about LeBron James' first stint in Cleveland. The superstar landed on a small market, and lifted them into high-profile and contender status. In 2006-07, 22-year-old James led the Cavs all the way to the Finals, only to get swept 4-0 by the veteran San Antonio Spurs. After that, we naturally presumed that James and the Cavs would get better and better and eventually reach the promised land. And they did -- in the regular season. By 2008-09, LeBron James had become the league MVP, leading the Cavs to finish with a 66-16 record (best in the NBA.) That season, they lost a tough Conference Finals. The next season, James won MVP again, and the Cavs finished with the best record in the league again. Only this time, they got bounced in round TWO.
The Bucks are on that exact same trend. Giannis has won two MVPs in a row -- the Bucks have grabbed the # 1 seed two years in a row -- and they've disappointed in the playoffs two years in a row.
We all remember what happened after the Cavs' hit that roadblock -- LeBron James left the following year. Giannis isn't a free agent yet, but he theoretically could push for a trade, or he could simply wait until next offseason to fly the coop. We've already started to hear the whispers. Miami. Toronto. Golden State. If he wants to mimic LeBron James' career arc, he may be eyeing the Dallas Mavericks, their cap space, and their young international stars. It can be their own version of a super team: the Big III.
If you're a Bucks fan or executive, that fear should keep you up at night. That paranoia may be real.
But still, you can't live in the fear. You need to keep pushing forward, ignoring all the gossip, all the media rumors, all the instagram tea leaves. Even if some of it's real, you need to block it out. You have a job to do. Win. Championship-caliber teams and title chances don't come along very often in a league with 30 teams. Even if they just run it back, the Bucks have a chance to win the championship. Even if it's just for one more year, even if it's your own Last Dance, you strap on your dancing shoes and go for it.
After all, there's no Giannis trade that's going to make sense from a basketball perspective. If you lose Giannis (via trade or via free agency), you may never be in this position ever again. This is it. This is your chance. Be grateful that you even get one, because most front offices and coaching staffs don't.
step two: build a title machine, not a title team
When you're scared that your superstar may leave, there's a tendency to get desperate with "win now!" moves. The Cleveland Cavaliers did the same with LeBron James, adding players like old Ben Wallace and old Shaq. Didn't work.
There may be some temptation to do the same here, with names like Chris Paul already being thrown around. Presumably, the logic goes that if the Bucks win in 2021, then Giannis won't leave.
But we also have recent history to suggest that's not true either. The Toronto Raptors acquired Kawhi Leonard, won the championship, and still lost him in free agency. Players don't base their decisions around the past; they base decisions about what's best for their FUTURE.
By those standards, the Bucks need to be concerned. They've built the roster around Giannis, but it's a fairly old roster. Khris Middleton is still in his prime, but Eric Bledsoe is already 30 (and under contract for 3 more years.) Brook Lopez is 32 (and under contract for 3 more years.) Wes Matthews is 33, and George Hill is 34. This is a supporting cast that may have peaked, and may get worse and worse over time. Would Giannis want to sign a long-term contract with a team with diminishing returns around him?
With that in mind, the Bucks should only make a major trade if it yields a star in his 20s. No Chris Paul, no Al Horford. The ideal acquisitions for this team would be players like Bradley Beal (27 years old) or C.J. McCollum (28). Both of them can space the floor for Giannis, but also create their own scoring as well. Better yet, their skill sets should age well and keep them valuable for the next 4-5 years. If Giannis gave the greenlight (and signed on the dotted line), the Bucks could make a Clippers-PG3 esque move and mortgage their future drafts to acquire a star like that.
Realistically, that may be too high of a bar. They're the template, but they're likely out of the Bucks' price range in terms of assets. Other candidates that have been floated on the market include Buddy Hield (a super fit as a shooter), and Otto Porter (injury prone and expensive, but still effective as a 3+D player when healthy.) Jrue Holiday may be an intriguing option, although he'd technically break our rule because he just turned "30" in June. Still, Holiday is a great guy and a versatile defender, so he may be worth betraying our bolded mandate.
step three: no weak links allowed in the machine
We've been taught through history lessons and Michael Jordan mythology that the best player in the NBA is supposed to win the title, no matter what. Alas, it's nearly impossible in today's climate for a superstar to win a championship without a great supporting cast. Either you need a superstar teammate, or an incredibly balanced roster around you.
The Bucks have a very good supporting cast, but it's probably a little shy of title worthy. The shooting guard position is a potential weak link.
Current starter Wes Matthews is a tough dude who fits the 3+D profile, but his 3 and his D ain't quite what it used to be. He still fights admirably, but he's approaching 34 and saddled with a lot of mileage and injury history. This season, he struggled to find his rhythm offensively, registering a 54.7% true shooting. That's actually not a bad number on its own, but it was the lowest among the Bucks' top 10 rotation players.
With Matthews aging, the hope is that 23-year-old Donte DiVicenzo can step up and grab hold of that mantle. That's still up in the air. DiVicenzo has virtues: good athleticism, good energy, solid defense, but he's still developing his shot and learning to play under control. It may be a leap of faith to presume that he'd be ready to start for a title team next season. Meanwhile, Pat Connaughton is OK, but he's a free agent and wouldn't be any great shakes himself.
Presuming we don't land a great trade, what do we do here? The options may be limited, given the lack of cap space and movable trade assets.
The Bucks may need to find a place-holder again until they're confident that DiVicenzo can play 25-30 minutes a night. You may be able to find a decent stopgap in the trade market: someone like Terrence Ross (ORL), or Reggie Bullock (NYK), or Jeremy Lamb (IND).
The New Orleans Pelicans would intrigue me as potential trade partner, given their abundance of riches (and question marks) at the guard position. They'll have Jrue Holiday and Lonzo Ball under contract, as well as promising combo guards like Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Josh Hart. Those latter two may be great options for the Bucks' long-term approach. If "short term" is the goal, then you'd have to consider J.J. Redick as well. The defense and age are issues, but Redick still lit it up to the tune of 45% shooting from 3 this year. Platooning Redick and DiVincenzo isn't a terrible option. And hell, let's throw one more Pelican into the mix. If I ran the Bucks, I'd try to sign free agent E'Twaun Moore, an underrated 3+D player who got lost in the shuffle this season. Moore has enough length to play the 2 or 3, and could soak up 25 minutes for the team. Adding more competent wings would also give the team some flexibility in their lineups and rotations to go big or small as they please.
step four: if all else fails, embrace organic farming
Let's say the Milwaukee Bucks don't acquire a third star. Let's say they don't land an upgrade on the margins either. Let's say they have to enter 2020-21 with this exact same roster. If that's the case, they're still likely going to win 50+ games, still likely going to be a threat to make the Finals. It's not the end of the world by any stretch.
However, if the Bucks can't shake up or tweak their roster, then they're going to have to rely more on internal improvements. We already mentioned Donte DiVincenzo as a major piece of the future and a potential starter down the road. It'd be great if we could see that trajectory for PF D.J. Wilson as well. After doing nothing as a rookie, he started to find some footing as a sophomore (playing 18.4 minutes a night.) But instead of improve again, he took a sizable step back.
If Wilson can shake it off and get back on schedule, it would be very helpful for the team. PF Marvin Williams is retiring, and PF Ersan Ilyasova is 33 years old himself. It's imperative that the Bucks find a capable stretch PF for the future, not only to back up Giannis at the 4 but also to play alongside him when he slides over to the 5.
This draft may also represent an opportunity to add a rotation player. The Bucks will have Indiana's draft pick -- # 24 overall. It's not likely to yield a star, but they should be able to find a contributor.
Let's take a look at some names to file away. Tyrell Terry (Stanford) is a smaller guard, but he's an elite shooter (41% from 3, 89% from the FT line.) Perhaps he can be our C.J. McCollum -- or at least, our Seth (not Steph) Curry off the bench. Terry's ranked in the 20s, but some sites like The Ringer have him a lot higher (# 9 for them.) Speaking of potential sleepers, I'd be intrigued by PF/C Killian Tillie (Gonzaga). He's also a top notch shooter for his position. He's limited in terms of defense and durability, but playing next to Giannis can cure a lot of problems. I also like SF Robert Woodard II (Mississippi State), a 6'7" wing with 3+D potential.
Regardless of who the Bucks take, they need to show that they can develop him well. As we've mentioned numerous times, this is an older supporting cast that will slowly decay. Replacing those talents with competent rotational players will be key to sustaining the team's success.
step five: have a Plan B, C, D and E in your back pocket
Coach Mike Budenholzer has gotten a lot of flak for his playoff performance, and there's validity to that criticism. Throughout his career, Bud has done a lot better in the regular season than the postseason. He's gotten spanked too many times, losing 3-4 games in a row in a fashion that shouldn't happen for a high-level coach. At times, he appears to be a step slow to adjust, freezes, and watches the train roll over him.
In some ways, I wonder if the Bucks were a victim of their own success here. They've been SO GOOD in the regular season that they've never seemed to need a Plan B. They can lock you down on D, use those transition opportunities to score at will, and dominate the game so easily that Giannis can check out and eat gyros by the 4th quarter.
However, we can see the pitfalls of that when teams slow down their typical gameplan, and cause the Bucks to scramble for new looks. Does this team have the ability to counter-punch?
One potential wrinkle I'd be curious to see is whether they'd be more effective in playoff games with Eric Bledsoe coming off the bench. While George Hill is old, he's still a good 3+D player who can hold the fort at PG. In fact, he's a better shooter and spacer than Bledsoe. For his part, Bledsoe is more of a playmaker and wrecking ball who could theoretically have more freedom and more impact in leading a second unit.
Is that the answer? Is going small the answer? Is playing Giannis closer to 40 minutes (in the playoffs) the answer?
I dunno. But I'm not paid to know. And I'm not expecting Coach Bud to have all the answers right now. But from what we've seen, the team needs to be more willing to throw some potential solutions at the wall and see what sticks rather than allowing themselves to get stomped out of another playoff series. Because if this happens again, they may as well call up United Airlines and get the blond flight attendants ready, because Giannis will be flying out of here.

Display technology of Goolton AR glasses compared to others
Not the best translation but interesting. Thanks to u/kokoniqq for the heads up!
1. Optical display scheme in AR glasses
Augmented reality technology, or AR technology, is to provide users with virtual information through images, videos, 3D models and other technologies while displaying real scenes, so as to achieve the ingenious integration of virtual information and the real world. It is the tipping point of the next information technology. According to authoritative predictions, augmented reality glasses will replace mobile phones as the next generation of collaborative computing platforms. Augmented reality technology represented by augmented reality glasses is currently emerging in various industries, especially in the security and industrial fields. Augmented reality technology embodies unparalleled advantages and greatly improves the way of information interaction. At present, the optical display solutions in the more mature augmented reality technology are mainly divided into prism solutions, birdbath solutions, free-form surface solutions, off-axis holographic lens solutions, and lightguide solutions.
1.1 Prism scheme
The prism scheme takes Google Glass as an example. As shown in Figure 1, the optical display system is mainly composed of a projector and a prism. The projector projects the image, and then the prism reflects the image directly into the human retina, superimposing it with the real image. Since the system is above the human eye, it is necessary to focus the eye to the upper right to see the image information, and this system has a natural contradiction between the field of view and the volume. The Google Glass system has a small field of view, with only a 15-degree field of view, but the optical lens has a thickness of 10mm, and the brightness is not enough, and the image has a large distortion, so the product was withdrawn by the company shortly after entering the market.

Figure 1. Physical image of Google Glass glasses products
1.2 Birdbath solution
The optical design in the Birdbath solution is to project light from the display source onto a 45-degree beam splitter. The beam splitter has reflection and transmission values (T), allowing the light to be partially reflected in the percentage of R, while the rest Transmitted in T value. At the same time, T allows users to see physical objects in the real world and digital images generated by the display at the same time. The light reflected from the beam splitter bounces onto the combiner. The synthesizer is generally a concave mirror that redirects light to the eyes. AR headsets using this optical display solution mainly include Lenovo Mirage AR headsets (Figure 2(a)) and ODG R8 and R9 (Figure 2(b)). Among them, ODG has a 50-degree field of view, and its thickness exceeds 20mm.

Figure 2. (a) Mirage headset device; (b) ODG R9 headset device
1.3 Free-form surface scheme
The free-form surface scheme generally uses a free-form surface mirror with a certain reflection/transmission (T) value. The free-form surface is a complex and unconventional surface shape that is different from a spherical or aspherical surface, which is used to describe the surface shape of the lens. The mathematical expression of is relatively complicated and often does not have rotational symmetry. The light from the display directly hits the concave mirrocombiner and is reflected back into the eyes. The ideal position of the display source is centered and parallel to the mirror surface. Technically speaking, the ideal position is for the display source to cover the user's eyes, so most designs move the display "off-axis" and set it above the forehead. The off-axis display on the concave mirror has distortion, which needs to be corrected on the software/display side. Since free-form surfaces can not only provide more degrees of freedom for the design of optical systems, significantly improve the optical performance of the system, but also bring more flexible structural forms to system design, so it has become a research hotspot in the field of optical design in recent years. Among the most representative companies are Epson of Japan (shown in Figure 3) and the Meta series of Dream Vision Corporation of the United States (shown in Figure 4). Although the AR glasses of Epson of Japan are gambling in terms of color, saturation and image quality, they only have a field of view of 23 degrees and a thickness of 13mm. Although the Meta2 series of AR glasses from American Dreamland Vision has a 90-degree field of view, its thickness exceeds 50mm, and the weight of the optical and mechanical system alone is about 420 grams.

Figure 3. AR glasses developed by Epson in Japan. (a) The actual product; (b) The imaging light path.

Figure 4. AR helmet developed by American Dreamland Vision. (a) The actual product; (b) The imaging light path.
From the above, it can be seen that there is an unavoidable contradiction in the prism scheme, birdbath scheme, and free-form surface scheme, that is, the larger the field of view, the thicker the optical lens and the larger the volume. It is precisely because of this. The irreconcilable contradiction limits its application in smart wear, that is, augmented reality glasses.
1.4 Holographic lens solution
The holographic lens solution uses the unique optical characteristics of the holographic lens. The principle is to record a holographic collimating lens (Hd) and a simple linear grating (Hg) on the same holographic dry plate, and the holographic collimating lens will emit the display source. The beam is collimated into a plane wave and diffracted into the substrate for total internal reflection transmission, while the line grating diffracts the beam into the human eye. This system uses holographic optical elements as coupling elements. It has a compact structure and reduces the difficulty of designing and processing holographic optical elements. At the same time, it reduces the dispersion of the holographic lens. It also has the advantages of large FOV and small size, so it is quickly adopted by people. accept. However, due to the relatively small eye movement range, and the holographic lens has complex aberrations and severe dispersion, the imaging effect of the holographic lens is not ideal. The representative manufacturer currently adopting the holographic lens solution is North. As shown in Figure 5, it is the physical map of North's AR glasses products based on the holographic lens solution and the schematic diagram of the imaging optical path.

1.5 Optical waveguide solution
The optical waveguide solution has advantages in terms of clarity, viewing angle, volume, etc., so it has become the best optical display solution in augmented reality glasses, and is expected to become the mainstream optical display solution for AR glasses. AR glasses based on waveguide technology are generally composed of three parts: display module, waveguide and coupler. The light emitted by the display module is coupled into the optical waveguide by the in-coupling device, travels forward in the form of total reflection in the waveguide, and when it reaches the out-coupling device, it is coupled out of the optical waveguide and enters the human eye for imaging. Because the optical path is folded by the waveguide, the general system volume is relatively small. According to the principle of the coupler, the optical waveguide technology used in AR glasses based on waveguide technology can be divided into two types: geometric waveguide and diffractive optical waveguide.
The geometric waveguide solution generally includes a sawtooth structure waveguide and a polarized film array mirror waveguide (referred to as a polarized array waveguide). Among them, the mainstream polarized arrayed waveguide uses multiple semi-transparent and semi-reflective film layers that are placed in parallel and have a certain split ratio to achieve image output and exit pupil expansion, thereby having a thin, thin, large field of view and eye movement range. And the advantage of uniform color. The diffractive optical waveguide schemes mainly include surface relief grating waveguide scheme and volume holographic grating waveguide scheme. The embossed grating waveguide solution is manufactured using nano-imprint lithography technology. Although it has the advantages of large field of view and large eye movement range, it will also bring challenges to field of view and color uniformity, and related micro-nano processing technology. It is also a huge challenge, and the production cost is high. The volume holographic grating waveguide solution has advantages in color uniformity (no rainbow effect) and realization of a single-chip full-color waveguide, so it has attracted great interest from AR optical module manufacturers.
Figure 6 is the basic display principle of the waveguide solution. The coupling area is used to couple the light beam of the micro-projector into the waveguide sheet, so that the light beam satisfies the conditions of total reflection propagation in the waveguide sheet, and the coupling area is used for total reflection. The propagating light beam couples out of the waveguide and reaches the human eye. The coupling area can be mirrors, prisms, relief gratings and volume holographic gratings. The decoupling area can be half mirrors, relief gratings and volume holographic gratings arranged in an array. This article will explain in detail the polarization array waveguide scheme in geometric optical waveguide technology and the surface relief grating waveguide scheme and volume holographic grating waveguide scheme in diffractive optical waveguide technology, and the preparation and processing technology of surface relief grating and volume holographic grating At the same time, it further introduces the research and development situation of Goolton Technology in this field.

2. Polarization array waveguide
2.1 Principle of Polarization Array Waveguide
The waveguide lens of the polarization array waveguide technology usually adopts a plurality of semi-transmissive and semi-reflective coatings placed in parallel and with a certain split ratio to achieve image output and exit pupil expansion. The semi-transparent and semi-reflective coating has angular selectivity. , And the array is arranged. The schematic diagram of its working principle is shown in Figure 7.After the light emitted by the image source is collimated by the eyepiece system, it is coupled into the waveguide by the reflective surface of the waveguide. The light in each field of view propagates in the waveguide according to the total reflection theorem, and the light enters the semi-transparent On the reverse side, part of it reflects out of the waveguide, and the other part of the transmission continues to propagate. Then this part of the advancing light meets another mirror, and the above-mentioned "reflection-transmission" process is repeated until the last mirror in the mirror array reflects all the remaining light out of the waveguide into the human eye. Since the waveguide can have multiple semi-transparent and semi-reverse surfaces, and each semi-transparent and semi-reverse surface forms an exit pupil, the exit pupil can be expanded when the substrate thickness is very thin to achieve a large field of view and large eye movement range. After multiple reflections, the emitted light can be "adjusted" to be more uniform.

Figure 7. Schematic diagram of the working principle of the array optical waveguide
The pupil dilation technology of this technology is more complicated in design. Full consideration should be given to stray light, human eye compatibility, and various performance indicators when designing. In addition, uniformity is also an intuitive indicator of the end user experience. How to control the reflection and transmittance of multiple coatings, how to optimize the whole machine, and how to control the coating process can ensure the uniformity of the entire eye movement range. the focus of research. For this reason, Goolton Technology independently developed and designed optical modules based on polarization arrayed waveguide technology, and after repeated attempts to summarize, obtained epoch-making results.

Powerful AR products and high-quality services.
3. Diffractive optical waveguide
3.1 Surface relief grating waveguide
The relief grating waveguide solution is to use relief grating (SRG) instead of traditional catadioptric optical device (ROE) as the coupling in, coupling out and exit pupil expansion device in the waveguide solution. The schematic diagram of its working principle is shown in Figure 10.

Figure 10. Schematic diagram of the principle of diffractive optical waveguide and surface relief grating
Commonly used relief gratings are mainly one-dimensional gratings, including tilted gratings, trapezoidal gratings, blazed gratings and rectangular grating structures. Figure 11(a) shows the scanning electron microscope (SEM) image of the tilted grating. The two-dimensional grating is mainly a hexagonal cylindrical grating structure commonly used in waveguides. Figure 11(b) shows the SEM image of the two-dimensional cylindrical grating structure. The feature sizes of the above grating structures are all nanometers. Currently, the most representative products of the embossed grating waveguide solution are Microsoft's HoloLens series 12(a) and WaveOptics' embossed grating waveguide series 12(b).

3.2 Volume holographic grating waveguide
The volume holographic grating waveguide solution uses a volume holographic grating as the coupling in and out of the waveguide. A volume holographic grating is an optical element with a periodic structure. It is generally exposed through a double-beam holographic exposure, directly on the micron-level thickness of the photopolymer The internal interference of the film forms interference fringes with light and dark distribution, which causes the periodic change of the refractive index inside the material. This period is generally a nano-scale grating structure, which is an order of magnitude with the wavelength of visible light, so the light can be effectively modulated, and the incident light can be diffracted to change the direction of light transmission. Combining the volume holographic grating and the waveguide film, the diffraction efficiency of the volume holographic grating can be adjusted by designing the relevant parameters of the volume holographic grating (such as material refractive index n, refractive index modulation factor and thickness, etc.).
The schematic diagram of the working principle of the volume holographic grating waveguide technology is shown in Figure 13.The image generated by the microdisplay becomes parallel light after passing through the collimating system. The diffraction effect changes the propagation direction of parallel light. When the light in the waveguide meets the condition of total reflection, it is confined to travel in the waveguide direction without loss. When the parallel light propagates to the holographic grating at the out-coupling end, the condition of total reflection is destroyed, and the light is diffracted again and becomes parallel light that exits the waveguide and enters the human eye for imaging. When the coupled holographic grating and the modulated out holographic grating have the same periodic structure and mirror symmetry, the dispersion can be effectively eliminated.

Figure 13. Schematic diagram of the working principle of volume holographic grating waveguide technology
The representative manufacturers that adopted volume holographic grating waveguide solutions in the early days were Sony and Digilens. With the maturity of this technology, the number of companies participating in the optical research of holographic grating diffraction waveguides is increasing, mainly including TruLife and WaveOptics in the United Kingdom, and Akonia in the United States. Wait. Sony has produced a high-brightness single-green volume holographic grating waveguide. As shown in Figure 14, the structure uses a double-sided volume holographic grating as the coupling end, achieving a transmittance of 85% and a display brightness of 1000cd/m2. However, due to the small thickness of the volume holographic grating, the efficiency of the system is low. In addition, it can only be used for monochromatic display and has been discontinued. Digilens launched a double-layer full-color volume holographic grating waveguide, as shown in Figure 15. This structure realizes color by using multiple monochromatic gratings, which can effectively reduce the crosstalk of system colors, but the efficiency of the system is not high, and because of its The double-layer waveguide structure makes the system more difficult to manufacture.

Goolton Technology uses the holographic material exposure method to combine the RGB three colors into a diffractive waveguide, and uses the principle of coherent recording and diffraction to transmit the image to the human eye for display. There are three aspects: simulation design, materials, and process preparation. Simulation design requires self-written complex calculation models; materials mainly refer to the photosensitive materials in HOE. For holographic optical waveguides, low shrinkage ratio, high efficiency and high uniformity before and after manufacturing are required; in terms of process, more holographic technology is required Manufacturing light path and exposure experience, it is very related to the materials used. Figure 16 shows the corresponding display effect of the single-layer full-color volume holographic grating waveguide developed by Goolton Technology, with a field of view of 30°.

4. Micro-nano manufacturing of diffractive optical waveguides
4.1 Micro-nano fabrication of surface relief grating waveguide
Surface relief gratings can be divided into one-dimensional and two-dimensional gratings from the dimension, and can be divided into straight gratings, blazed gratings and inclined gratings in structure. Since the augmented reality optical waveguide is used in the visible light band, in order to achieve greater diffraction efficiency and field of view, its characteristic size is generally hundreds of nanometers or even tens of nanometers, and its performance has a small tolerance for errors. Processing and preparation posed great challenges. The current preparation of diffractive optical waveguides is basically based on semiconductor preparation processes (such as photolithography and etching processes). However, because these methods are limited by their complicated and expensive equipment, the production cost is very high, and they are not suitable for mass production of optical modules.
Shown in Figure 17 is the process flow chart of surface relief grating template preparation or small batch preparation, including its scanning electron micrograph. For straight gratings, the process is relatively mature. First, a resist layer is spin-coated on the substrate, and the grating is patterned by interference exposure or electron beam exposure, and then reactive ion etching (RIE) or inductively coupled plasma etching is used ( ICP) transfer the pattern to the substrate and remove the resist layer to complete the preparation of the straight grating. Due to the uniformity problem, the oblique grating optical waveguide represented by HoloLens cannot be directly prepared by the reactive etching scheme, so the preparation process is more complicated, and focused ion beam etching (FIBE) and ion beam etching are required. Beam etching, IBE), reactive ion beam etching (reactive ion beam etching, RIBE) technology. Considering efficiency and uniformity comprehensively, RIBE is a more suitable solution. First, a hard mask (such as Cr) layer is plated on the substrate by physical or chemical methods, and then a resist layer is spin-coated. Also use interference exposure or electron beam exposure for patterning, and then transfer the resist pattern to the Cr layer through a chlorine dry etching process. After the etching process, the remaining resist layer is stripped by oxygen plasma method. Next, the fluorine-based RIBE process is used to incident the substrate with an ionized argon ion beam at an oblique angle. After the reactive ion beam etching, the Cr mask is removed by a standard wet etching process to obtain an oblique grating with excellent uniformity.

Figure 17. Surface relief grating template or small batch preparation process
The above-mentioned semiconductor-based manufacturing process is expensive and not suitable for mass production and processing of grating waveguides. Therefore, the replication process of diffractive optical waveguides was developed to achieve mass production, and this large-scale manufacturing process relies on optical resins with high refractive index. At present, Magic Leap and WaveOptics have carried out verification of related processes. The replication process includes hot embossing, UV-nano imprint lithography and micro contact printing (also known as soft lithography). Among them, ultraviolet nanoimprint lithography is a common method in mass production of surface relief grating waveguides.
The specific process flow is shown in Figure 18. The process can be divided into two stages: nanoimprint work mold preparation stage and mass production stage. First, the pattern is processed on the silicon wafer to be used as a template through the above-mentioned template preparation process, and UV resin is spin-coated on a larger silicon wafer through nanoimprint technology and more templates are printed on it. The printed structure is then exposed to ultraviolet light to fix the resin. Finally, the multi-pattern imprinting mold is mass-produced by repeating the above process. In the mass production process, multi-pattern molds are used to produce surface-relief grating waveguides, then functional coatings are used to cover the waveguides, and laser cutting technology is used to separate them, and finally the waveguides of different structures are stacked to realize the preparation of optical modules.

Figure 18. Mass production process flow of surface relief grating replication
4.2 Micro-nano manufacturing of volume holographic grating waveguide
The key element of the volume holographic waveguide is the volume holographic grating. The preparation of the volume holographic grating makes use of the characteristics of holographic technology. Two plane light waves with a certain angle excited by laser interfere with each other, and the interference pattern is exposed and attached to the substrate. It is obtained by forming interference fringes on the photosensitive material, and the material properties change according to the intensity distribution of light. Finally, a material with periodic changes in refractive index is obtained. The materials for preparing volume holographic waveguides include silver halide, dichromate gelatin, photosensitive polymers, holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystals, and other more exotic materials.
Holographic technology is a method that uses the principle of optical coherence to record and obtain the amplitude and phase information of an object light wave. It uses the principle of interference recording and diffraction reproduction to record the interference fringes generated by the interference of the object light wave with amplitude and phase information and the reference light wave into a hologram in the form of intensity distribution, thereby recording all the amplitude and phase information of the object light wave in On photosensitive materials. Holography is an active coherent imaging technology. The holographic recording optical path (as shown in Figure 19(a)) mainly completes two functions. One is to complete the coherent illumination of the measured object, which is formed by the transmission or reflection of the object. The object light wave; the second is to use the reference light wave to interfere with the object light wave to form a hologram.
Image
Among them, T0 represents the zero-order diffracted light, which corresponds to the transmitted light wave of the reference light wave; T+1 represents the +1-order diffracted light, which carries the information of the original object light wave; T-1 is the -1 order diffracted light, which carries the object light wave Conjugation information. In optical holography, the +1-order diffracted light can form a virtual image of the object, which can be directly observed with eyes, while the -1st-order diffracted light can form a real image of the object, which can be received by the screen.
Figure 19. Schematic diagram of the recording and reproduction process of optical holography
The diffraction order of the ideal holographic grating is only 0 and ±1 orders. The holographic optical waveguide display uses the 0th order light to be continuously totally reflected in the optical waveguide, while the -1 order light continuously emits from the waveguide surface. The geometrical schematic diagram of grating diffraction is shown in Figure 20.
Figure 20. Schematic diagram of holographic grating diffraction geometry
Image
From the above three equations, it can be concluded that for a specific wavelength, waveguide medium and light incident angle, the grating period that meets the total reflection condition should meet certain conditions.
According to its structure, holographic gratings can be divided into transmission type and reflection type holographic gratings. The fundamental difference between the two is that the recording method is different, that is, the propagation direction of the two recording lights is different, which causes the different orientation of the interference fringe surface in the recording material. When the transmission type holographic grating records, the object light and the reference light are incident from the same side of the recording medium, while when the reflection type holographic grating records, the object light and the reference light are incident from both sides of the recording medium.
Holographic gratings can be divided into surface holographic gratings and volume holographic gratings according to the relative thickness relationship between the thickness of the recording medium and the interference fringe spacing. The evaluation criteria of surface holographic grating and volume holographic grating are characterized by Q value. When Q≥10, it is volume holographic grating, otherwise it is surface holographic grating.
Image
The microstructure of volume holographic grating is inside the volume grating, so its diffraction is mainly the volume effect of the material. When the incident light satisfies the Bragg condition, the volume holographic grating will have extremely high diffraction efficiency, and if it deviates from the Bragg condition, the diffraction efficiency will drop rapidly. This characteristic makes the volume holographic grating have obvious angle and wavelength selectivity. When used as a coupling device, a volume holographic grating can couple light with a specific wavelength and angle in the waveguide out of the waveguide without blocking the view of the real scene from the outside, so it is an ideal coupling device.
The above-mentioned preparation process of volume holographic grating is only suitable for small batch verification, and for mass production, it is necessary to develop a more economical solution. Companies represented by Sony and DigiLens have developed the processing process of volume holographic waveguide. The roll-to-roll process for preparing volume holographic waveguides is shown in Figure 21. First, the double-beam interference exposure method is used to form volume holographic waveguides in the photosensitive polymer film attached to the roll; the second step is to form high-quality cycloolefin polymer plastic waveguides by injection molding. In order to obtain a qualified image, the warpage of the waveguide must be less than 5um, and the thickness change of the effective area should be less than 1um. Then the transfer process of the holographic optical element is carried out to accurately align and paste the holographic waveguide film with the plastic waveguide; then the plastic holographic waveguide is cut; finally in the color matching process, the red and blue plastic waveguides and the green plastic waveguide are aligned and used with UV The resin encapsulates and fixes it. The plastic substrate should remain flat before and after each processing is a challenge faced by both the stamping and color matching processes.

Alternative Chip Strategy

Those that have been patient with their chips are most likely planning to use them in the upcoming blank and double gameweeks. While these strategies make absolutely sense, it has started to become template.
I am skeptical when it comes to playing chips in DGWs. For the past two seasons, my DGWs have been underwhelming whereas my rivals saw greater benefit from their SGW chips! To me, a DGW is a trap.
If you are leading your ML or have a decent OR, it will make sense to follow the herd in order to protect your rank. However, if you are playing catch up like me, then it is worthwhile to follow an alternative strategy that can either backfire or result in a huge reward.
Based on the herd mentality on this sub, twitter and youtube, managers with their first wildcard will WC16, FH18 and BB19 and then navigate DGW26 and BGW29 with WC2 and FTs, using TC in any subsequent DGW.
Managers without their first WC will use FTs for GW18 or 19 and use their FH in GW18 or 19 depending on how their team are currently set up. The more popular choice is to FH18 as it will allow you to use BB or TC chip for DGW19.
A more conservative strategy is to navigate GW18/19 using FTs and to use chips for DGW26 and BGW29. This strategy also prepares the manager for any fixtures that might be postponed by the pandemic, at least until GW26/29. Any unforseen fixture delays after GW26/29 will be difficult to manage without any remaining chips.
Either way, it appears that most managers will burn their chips during BGW18/DGW19 or during DGW26/BGW29.
The alternative/differential strategy I am leaning towards to is to navigate the two major DGWs with FTs and to use your second WC and BB right at the end of the season.
That would be WC37 and BB38. This strategy has the following advantages:
  1. Already Settled - It will be clear which team (i.e. Liverpool) will win the league and which teams are already relegated (i.e. Arsenal). This heavily influences how teams play and can cause some major upsets. The winning team usually fields their B team, whereas relegated teams becomes a punching bag or give their last best performance of the season.
  2. The Last Fight - More importantly, you will know which teams are fighting to avoid relegation or to keep a top 4/5 spot for UCL or UEL. These are the teams to target as they will be emotionally motivated to give their best performance. Ignore FDR, it's all about team motivation in GW37/38.
  3. Everyone Playing Like Leeds! - Due to 1 and 2 above, GW38 tends to be a goal fest. Heck, even Aubameyang or Timo might score. A late WC means you can field a proper offensive lineup and BB which can pay dividends!
  4. Keeping Team Structure - Using your WC/BB at the end of the season, means you are not compromising the structure of your team for future GWs. Everyone else who used WC/BB earlier would need to offload an expensive bench while also dealing with unforeen injuries...
  5. Better Prepared - Reserving your chips means you are better prepared for the covid international break, injuries or major fixture post ponements between GW29 and GW38. In that same period, the herd will have to extinguish fires with a hit or two. At least you will have the added flexibility of using your WC to deal with major emergencies.
  6. Free to use TC/FH - For those planning to FH or BB in DGW19 will be missing the opportunity to use TC on Salah or Bruno. There might be a good TC option in DGW26 or other mini DGWs but unless the fixtures are announced, we have no way of knowing. DGW19 is potentially the best GW to use TC. If you plan to use BB38 then you are completely free to use your TC in any DGW and FH in any BGW.
  7. Clutching The Win - Using WC37 and BB38 can catch your ML leader offguard, potentially giving you clutch win and bragging rights until the new season of despair.
It goes without saying that this strategy comes with its own risk and disadvantages. Basically you are taking a huge gamble that DGW19/26 will be underwhelming and GW38 will be a goal fest, which is in no way guaranteed. The opposite could just as well happen.
But without taking a huge risk could mean that you will be playing catchup for the rest of the season. So this strategy is not for leading managers or those that want to protect their rank.
Currently, I have 8 players for BGW18 and 7 that play twice in DGW19. I have all my chips except WC1 and I'm 100pts behind my ML leader. OR = 1.6 mil.
With 3 FTs I can field a respectable 11 for BGW18 but then I will have 4 players for DGW19. Accumulating 2 FTs mean I can get 2 additional players for DGW19 so I will have 6 players playing twice and 5 playing once. I also plan to TC Salah. Not a bad setup compared to 11 or 15 players playing twice. I bet that a TC19 will net me more points than BB19.
Thereafter, I plan on using FTs to prepare for DGW26 and using FH29 for the blank. Alternatively, I can FT for BGW29 and use FH26 to field strong starting XI that play twice. I am betting that this will net me more points than WC24/BB26/FH29.
Lastly I will use WC37 and BB38 knowing which best teams/players to select. I am betting that GW38 will be a goal fest and will more rewarding than any DGW (like my previous two seasons).
What alternative chip strategies do you have? Do you have any successful or horror DGW stories to share? Comment below.
TLDR: The strategy is to WC37/BB38 instead of using it over any DGW.
