A quick note on the license that FunFair is planning to apply for this month.

Hey all, just wanted to write this to clear up any misconceptions.
FunFair is not a casino, therefore they do not need a casino operator license. However, they do license their technology & software out to separate casino operators, so they will be applying for what is called:
A Remote Gambling Software License.
It is important to note that this license is being applied for in the United Kingdom only.
FunFair will continue to carry out their business plan irrespective of this license, because the UK is just one market, and one regulator. This particular license that FunFair is applying for is simply a nice thing to have in this jurisdiction because it opens up new opportunities to UK-based operator partnerships.
If the license is rejected (unlikely), then FunFair will simply segue into other international entities that they're already familiar with, perhaps Malta. Additionally, there are many unregulated territories where no licensing is required.

How does the token (FUN) derive value?
FunFair does not issue dividends or offer profit sharing – FunFair has no profit to share. The technology will be licensed to casino operators for free – itself a major draw for existing casino operators to adopt the FunFair platform. FunFair does not take a cut of the profits from any of the casino operators – they’re free to keep all profits to themselves. With a fixed supply, the value in FUN is derived from scarcity of the token in the marketplace. Scarcity comes from four sources:

FunFair - An In-Depth Analysis (Updated April 25th)

FunFair has been up to a lot of things, and thus, the post made a few months ago is quite outdated. I’ve written this just to keep the subreddit updated, and to have a nicely formatted post full of information regarding FunFair for both newcomers and “veterans”. This post will be updated more often than not, and when the time comes for a new one again, it shall be written! Cheers.

What is FunFair?

FunFair is a decentralized gaming technology platform which uses the Ethereum blockchain, smart contracts, and proprietary state channels (Fate Channels) to deliver casino solutions with state of the art games that are fast, fun, and fair.
FunFair is not a casino. Instead, FunFair will license its technology out to casino operators. Being a casino carries with it risks and burdens stemming from statutory and regulatory hurdles. Being a licensing entity instead, provides legal safeguards and will enable a more widely used platform.

Why was FunFair created?

When did they start the project?

Technically, FunFair started on June 22nd, 2017, because all FUN tokens that will ever exist were created on this day. However, the idea, technology, and product were being developed before the ICO started.

Ok, so what is the technology? What are they developing?

FunFair is building their decentralized platform and protocol on top of Ethereum’s blockchain. FunFair is developing the game technology, and their proprietary, advanced state channel technology which they call Fate Channels. The platform that FunFair has created and continues to develop, will allow anyone to run a casino in just a few clicks, allow third party developers to distribute and integrate their own games to a new, global audience, while creating the ultimate casino experience for end users.
Fate Channels are FunFair’s custom, proprietary version of State Channels. They are superior technology to current State Channels, as they are what support the communication during game sessions between player and casino, while executing entire game logic and random number generation off-chain. They provide a fast, low cost method for RNG, starting game sessions, ending them, and settling with smart contracts on the blockchain. There is only one gas fee needed to start the game session, which solves scalability issues with platforms like Ethereum.

What really happens in the Fate Channels?

FunFair’s random number generation is executed within the Fate Channel, and is a commit/reveal scheme that makes it provably fair. There are also a hash chain to prove that the overall sequence is indeed fair.
A player enters a FunFair-powered casino with some FUN tokens in their wallet, and then both the casino and player send FUN tokens from each of their personal wallets into a smart contract which then holds the FUN in escrow via the Fate Channels (off-chain) until the player cashes out/closes the channel.
The player and casino swap random seeds that they have generated locally, and these are then hashed numerous times by both parties in private. The sequence of hashes are stored locally by each party. There could be thousands of hashes, which become the random numbers, and are passed one by one, in reverse order, by the casino to the player and vice versa when the game needs randomness. Since the hashes are in reverse order, a new hash will always hash into the previous one, so that it can be verified that it’s the correct value of the next hash. The first hash is committed in the state channel on the blockchain as it was opened, and this is what will be used later to reveal that the random number generation was correct.
The position that a ball lands on in a roulette spin, for example, is computed this way. The two hashes provided by both player and casino are combined into a random number that neither side could have predicted. It’s provably fair because because it can be shown that they come from the same hash chain in the correct sequence, and it can be shown after the game session is over, using the reveal to show the seed was in fact, committed to the blockchain in advance of the games played.
The random number generation scheme works extremely fast, and is not dependent and waiting on the blockchain for verification every time, yet it is provably fair in both randomness and sequence. It is easy to detect cheating by either side (for instance, the random number generations would go out of sequence). The security of the hash chain is what makes the randomness unpredictable. If it is possible to reverse a hash, you could predict the random number generation. FunFair uses SHA-3 for hash generation, which has not been reversed yet, and is likely to last in strength for some decades.

Some Information Regarding Casino Operators:

Casino operators will save significant money on hardware, chargebacks, and operational headcount. The number of physical servers required is reduced as gameplay executes in immutable smart contracts deployed to the ethereum network.
An operator will, at all times, require a reserve of FUN tokens to ensure they are able to accept bets, and cover their liabilities. If, after a period of time, they wish to convert some of their FUN token balance they will have a number of market exchanges which are capable of facilitating this type of transaction.
FunFair is working on the many customization options right now and up until release. You will definitely be able to customize the look and feel. You can add your own graphics, logos, colour schemes, etc. You will also be able to choose which kinds of games are offered, and how they will be laid out.
FunFair fully supports KYC. They’ve built their own KYC technology that’s crypto-friendly. FunFair’s tech will allow each operator to have their own policies on who they exclude and whether they require KYC/AML etc.

City of Heroes: What it was, what it means, and what it could be

Five years ago, City of Heroes/Villains was shutdown.
Five years ago, my home was lost to me.
And for five years, I have been adrift, tumbling between game after game, world after world, in search of a new home, in search of something to fill the gaping void left behind. I have never found it, and have, in fact, only been able to distract myself from the loss. Some days, not even that. I've tried many things during this time - Dark Souls, Grim Dawn, FFXIV, Fallout 4, ESO, and Guild Wars 2, to name a few - and some are better distractions than others, but all fail to capture my imagination, attention, and wallet as much as City of Heroes/Villains was able to.
In this latest bout of grief, I decided to enumerate the aspects of the game that I felt worked together to create the wonder and magic that infused Paragon City, the Rogue Isles, and Praetoria. For some, the following paragraphs are simply a rehash of the game mechanics. Others, though, may never have played it during its runtime and might be interested in what it had to offer and why we refugees yearn for its return. Now, what made the game wonderful for me may not be the same things that worked for someone else, for instance, I was never interested in PvP, in any game. But the beauty of City of Heroes/Villains is that it contained so much content that there was something for everyone to be interested in. While I am usually a silent lurker, I do tend to browse the Titan Network forums, Twitter, and various gaming news sites for any hint of City of Heroes/Villains information. This time, I'll add something instead.
I'll start from the first of the features in the game, and likely the one most often praised: the character creation system. With fourteen archetypes to choose from, replacing class selection from most games, already the player is given a large variety of viable options to choose from. Each archetype would demonstrate its own preferred manifestations of superpower options in the choice of a Primary Powerset and a Secondary Powerset. The function of these powersets would vary between archetypes, such as a Tanker having defensive based options for their Primary Powersets and melee attack options for their Secondary Powersets, or a Corruptor being able to choose amongst ranged attack powersets for their Primary, and support powersets for their Secondary. With ranged offense, melee offense, crowd control, defense, support, stealth, and pet control themes spread throughout the archetypes, not to mention the unique powersets available to the Epic Archetypes, it would be difficult to come across two people with even the same powerset choices. I think I teamed with one person who shared the same archetype and powersets that I used on my main character. Later in the game, you'll get to choose up to four Pool Powersets, from ways to shore up weaknesses in a build, to the Travel Powersets of Flight, Super Speed, Super Jump, and Teleportation.
Once an archetype and powerset decision is made, the player is then given the freedom to design their initial outfit. To say that there are a vast amount of options is an understatement. The basic categories of Head, Upper Body, and Lower Body each have at least nine subcategories, though not all of the subcategories will work well with each other. Within those subcategories are hundreds, if not thousands, of options, each of which may additionally be given a primary and secondary color choice. Weapons and Shields, if your powersets include them, can also be customized. Back Details, such as capes or wings, and Auras, animated effects that can be placed on eyes, hands, footsteps, or the whole body, are also options, though most of those are unlocked within the game itself, not at initial creation. At this point, you can also customize the colors of your powers themselves, a feature that wasn't available in the beginning of the game, but a highly requested one made possible by the efforts of the developers.
Right before jumping into the game, you'll choose a name, obviously important, but you will also have the opportunity to write a short background, up to 1,023 characters long. Don't worry though, if creativity deserts you, or you are itching to get in and play, you can always edit your background later. In game, other players will be able to see your background. I, for one, enjoyed randomly clicking on other players to see what they wrote. Speaking of creativity, the game encouraged creating your own stories and characters rather than merely duplicating characters from existing superhero properties, with the Game Moderators' ability to "generic" you, randomizing your outfit and genericizing your name. This was not a bad thing, in my opinion. Feel free to make homage outfits and use them inside instanced missions solo or among friends, but keep them to yourself, no need to bring down trouble on the developers.
Since your costume parts are chosen at the beginning, or edited into new outfits later in the game, you may be wondering where the stat upgrades come from. The answer is in the Enhancements system. With Enhancements, you directly upgrade the statistics of each power you have. When you level up, you receive either a new power choice, or two to three enhancement slots, to be distributed amongst your powers. Each power can have up to a maximum of six enhancement slots, and putting in more than three enhancements of a given type reduced their effectiveness. You could, for instance, slot an attack with six damage-increasing enhancements, but you wouldn't be getting that much more of a boost than having three, with the other slots used to reduce recast time, improve accuracy, or enhance the debuff effect, for example. And every integer involved in a given power could be affected by Enhancements. Travel powers could be sped up, healing could be improved, pets could be made to hit harder, everything could be slotted for faster recast or lesser endurance cost, to name just a few ways. Enhancements got better the higher level you were - new characters had Training Origin enhancements to use, Dual-Origin enhancements were twice as effective as those, with Single Origin enhancements being twice as good as the Dual-Origin ones. This is basically the only use an Origin chosen at character creation had, but that was fine. Other kinds of Enhancements could be found or crafted throughout the game, mostly at higher levels, as rewards for completing certain Task Forces or other content.
Following the freedom of choice in powers, outfits, and upgrades, progress itself in the game allows for a decent degree of freedom as well. You could follow story arcs, gaining experience for each mission completed and each enemy defeated, with Enhancements or other rewards paid out over the course of the story arc. You could go "street sweeping", simply running around the large and well-built environments defeating enemies on a street-level basis, gaining experience and loot drops. You could engage in randomized instanced missions via the police radio or newspaper, a series of which would culminate in a bank heist; whether you were participating in or preventing the heist depended on whether you were a hero or villain. All of these were viable means of leveling up and gaining loot.
Another set of choices available involved the path you took on the previously mentioned story arcs. For every level range, there were usually two or three possible contacts you could be sent to at the end of the previous arc you completed. Your contact would give a choice, as well as a brief description of the kind of tasks the new contact would have you working on. After completing two to four missions for a contact, your character would receive that contact's cell number, allowing you to pick up and turn in subsequent missions remotely, without having to run, or fly, all the way back if you happened to be on the other side of a zone. The zones were all spacious and well designed; it could be quite the journey. The choice of contacts allowed for you to basically create your own narrative, a story of how, exactly, you came to become so notable. And it would feel like your own story, as well, particularly when NPCs in cutscenes would talk about your character by name, through a little bit of code in the dialogue that pulled your name to fill certain marked points in NPC chatter. Or when you walk down the street, and a passing civilian commented on that mission you just finished. You were never treated as "just a sidekick of the real heroes/villains"; sure, some took you under their wing for a time, but at some point you became a Big Name on your own power, doing jobs for your reasons, not as a lackey of another. The little touches that added a lot of immersion.
Missions themselves are generally well made. City of Heroes/Villains' version of quests, they usually take players to an instanced, often randomized, map, be it a warehouse, ship, sewer, office building, or some other environment. The instance door could be one of hundreds scattered throughout a zone, or it could be a particular one in an important location. Regardless, the instancing of most missions means that there is little risk of one player's mission conflicting with another player's, or interrupting their street sweeping plans. A few involve defeating a certain number of enemies on the zone maps, but not many. Because of the way most missions were instanced, there were NPCs you could talk to that would alter the difficulty of missions, either by changing the level of your opponents, or making them think you had more players on your team than you actually did, as the number of enemies scaled with the number of players on a team. And if you enjoyed the plot of a particular story arc, or wanted to see what might happen with a different decision, the Ouroboros zone was introduced as a way to replay older story arcs, or play for the first times ones that you missed during your leveling, with options for additional challenges while time-travelling in this manner.
Doing missions as part of a team, though, was one of the most well-designed systems in the entire game, and I am befuddled as to why more MMORPGs don't borrow these mechanics. The Sidekick/Exemplar system, for one. If you teamed with someone, you would do their missions at their level - if you were lower level than they were, you would be brought up to one level below them; higher level than them, and you would be scaled down to them, but with access to powers from up to five levels higher than the level you were scaled down to. Games like ESO and Guild Wars 2 have implemented a kind of scaling, but it's one where the player is scaled to their content, not the content scaled to the player or team. Which, in games like those, where most of the content is part of the open world, the City of Heroes/Villains system might not work quite as well for content scaling to the team. However, it's still frustrating to see that no game has implemented the Sidekick/Exemplar form of scaling the team to the player whose content is being completed.
An additional benefit of a team working on a single person's missions at a time means that you are free to join someone's team recruitment whenever you feel like company, without worry that the narrative you are forming will be set back or altered by their actions. Or if you are trying to remain in a particular level range for a contact, you could turn off experience gain, earning increased currency as compensation. You do not have consider the dialogue choices of another player overriding the way you want to play a particular mission, like in SWTOR, just because you are no longer playing alone. It is more freedom to enjoy content the way you want to enjoy it. If you want help on your tasks, you can have it. If you want to take a break from a solo story and help someone, you can come right back to your own content when you're finished, with not a single aspect altered if that's what you want. More choices, more freedom, less of being forced into doing content you don't want to do at a pace different from what you like.
If what you like is content meant for groups, they exist in the form of Task Forces and Strike Forces - story arcs tailored for groups of eight players, with a reward at the end. Now, the best part of group content for me is that there was no concern at all for "holy trinity" style gameplay. Sure, not every archetype was as durable as Tankers or Brutes, but they didn't need to be. Most powersets contained at least a few team-wide buffs, or debuffs that would be placed on enemies. In fact, only one powerset, Empathy, was focused entirely on healing - because it usually wasn't needed. If you were able to mitigate damage in other ways, strict healing became less essential. Darkness-based powers lowered enemy accuracy, Force Fields raised your team's evasive ability, Dominator and Controller archetypes could remove enemies from attacking at all. Damage not done to you is damage that didn't need to be healed. Even teams whose powers focused mostly on offense could survive longer by virtue of defeating most threats before they had a chance to do too much harm. Every buff or debuff acted as a force multiplier for team effectiveness.
Other group content included zone events intended for larger number of players to participate in. Recurring events such as firefighting to put out a burning building, breaking up a gang party, or combatting the spirits of a ghost ship. Giant Monsters, whose difficulty scaled to players that fought them, were scattered throughout the game, some with special spawn requirements. Zone invasions, by zombies or aliens, would spawn opponents near every player in the zone, encouraging cooperation to defeat the hordes. Holiday events offered entertaining twists on these styles of events, and as mentioned before, could be participated in without affecting progression in the player's own content if so desired.
Where other games feature guilds as a means of collecting players together under a single banner in order to foster a sense of camaraderie and community, City of Heroes/Villains has Supergroups. Functionally the same, with ranks and symbols and even the option to use Supergroup colors on your costume in place of your usual ones. Supergroups did not necessarily need other players even to create, though some would say it made it more fun to have more people. I was one of those players who made a Supergroup for their own use, because Supergroups came with the option to build a base for the group. In a time when player housing was few and far between, and what options were usually pre-built and furnished ahead of time, Supergroup bases were customizable from the ground up, starting with size. Everything about the base was purchased with Prestige, an alternate currency earned from enemy defeats while in Supergroup mode, at a cost of a percentage of the normal currency you would usually receive. From places to stash extra loot, to your own resurrection sites, to teleporters to nearly every zone, and more, bases were an amazing way to personalize a player's experience even further.
The game managed to offer an astounding balance between challenging the player, and making sure that they felt powerful, a balance that could be tweaked with the previously mentioned instance difficulty settings. Another face of that balance was that all content, aside from the Incarnate end-game system, was designed with the use of Single Origin Enhancements in mind. There were Enhancement types that were numerically better, but some, like the Invention Origin ones, might prove too complicated for a more casual player, and as such, content was created in a way that made sure the player never felt punished for not using them. If you wanted to delve into Invention Origin Enhancement sets, you could, do so, squeezing out extra potency, but choosing not to never left you feeling like there was a massive gulf in power between you and someone who used them.
With all of this freedom of choice regarding character creation, looks, leveling, upgrading, and teaming, it only makes sense that you would also be offered the freedom to alter your alignment, and with the release of the Going Rogue expansion, you were able to do just that. Finding and completing ten Alignment Missions, uncovered by finding "Tips" upon an enemy's defeat, granted access to a Morality Mission, which could confirm or alter your alignment. Heroes could become Vigilantes, and then fall into Villain status, while Villain characters could become Rogues, and later redeem themselves into Heroes. Confirming status as a Hero or Villain would reward the player with an alternate currency used to purchase some of the rarer Enhancements, while Rogues and Vigilantes were able to participate in content on the other side of the fence, as it were: a Rogue could travel to Paragon City and join teams doing hero-side missions, though not start any, while a Vigilante could travel to the Rogue Isles and begin a descent into villainy by joining teams doing content there, though again, actually starting missions and speaking to contacts required full Villain or Hero alignment.
The end-game gave you just as much freedom to customize yourself as the rest of the game. Known as the Incarnate System, rather than just adding additional character levels like other games, you would instead enhance your abilities in a more horizontal manner, by crafting specific Incarnate Abilities using components dropped in high level content. You were only able to have one Incarnate Ability of each slot type equipped at a time, but you could make as many of them as you wanted, provided you had the materials. The Alpha Slot functioned like Enhancements, but on a somewhat larger scale, improving various statistics across all of your powers. Judgement Abilities were strong area-of-effect attacks. Interface Abilities granted all of your attacks the chance to proc an additional effect, such as damage over time, or debuffs to enemy accuracy. Lore Abilities gave the player pets, similar to those in the Mastermind archetype, themed on various enemy groups. Destiny Abilities were extremely potent team-wide buffs. Hybrid Abilities had both active and passive components, allowing for shoring up weaknesses in a build, or enhancing existing strengths.
Content meant for Incarnate-enhanced players formed the majority of the end-game gameplay, as well. Being the best way to acquire Incarnate crafting components as well as featuring enemies and challenges scaled to Incarnate level powers, all of the Incarnate Trials, what would be called raids in other games, pitted 16-24 players against foes that would challenge even a fully powered Incarnate, telling a story that spanned dimensions, as multiple sides competed in an Incarnate arms race, most heedless of the threat lurking beyond the stars that fed on Incarnate level cultures. But if raids weren't your thing, the revamped Dark Astoria content offered another means to obtain Incarnate crafting components, though at a somewhat slower rate.
For most of the game's existence, all of this wonderful content was available with a $15/month subscription. In the last year or two, though, the studio switched to a Free-to-Play model that actually didn't restrict you as much as most modern games do. Nearly all content from levels 1 through 50 were free of charge, with Invention Origin Enhancements requiring either a license or a subscription to access. Most archetypes and powersets were accessible by free players, with only the later powersets, and a few of the archetypes locked behind a one-time fee. A free player could upgrade to Premium status with a minimum purchase of $5 on the cash shop. The shop contained a large variety of things, including new costume pieces or bundles; newly released powersets; the premium archetypes; various account unlocks such as more character slots, rename or respec tokens, server transfers, or storage capacity upgrades; new story arcs that affected the overall canon; emotes; and more. Nothing in the store was really "pay-to-win" - new powersets had different effects than older ones, but that didn't magically make the free powersets any less effective. Many of the one-time unlocks would be available automatically if you retained an active subscription. Incarnate content was subscription only, but given that it was the majority focus of end-game progression, that made perfect sense. I'm not ashamed to say that on top of my subscription, I poured probably a couple hundred dollars into the cash shop, buying up all the new costumes, powers, and a few other things. And given that I worked at McDonald's in those days, barely making more than minimum wage, that was a decent portion of my disposable income.
The reason I did so is that the cash shop was what I would later learn to be as rare as an honest corporation: designed in such a way that you never felt pressured to buy anything - there was no aggressive monetization scheme, you never felt an impassable gap between those who paid and those who didn't - but nearly everything on the shop was something that had actual desirability. Not to bridge a gap of power, but because it was well-designed content. Interesting outfits, cool powers, fun vanity pets, alternate travel options, the care and attention to detail put into each was evident. And by not forcing or coercing players into spending, there was less negative connotation in doing so, making it more likely that players would, in fact, utilize the cash shop. No aggressive monetization, no pressure, just offering neat things, tying back into the overall freedom of choice - that's how microtransactions should be handled in games.
Enemy design in City of Heroes is such that nearly every enemy faction felt different from the others, instead of reskinned foes using the same tired combat. Freakshow Tanks would often resurrect after defeat. Rikti, aliens from another dimension, used advanced energy-based weapons that felt alien, in addition to highly focused psionic powers. Illusionists from the Carnival of Shadows could turn intangible, leaving you only brief windows to damage them. Malta Sappers, feared by hero and villain alike, could drain your entire endurance bar, leaving you unable to activate any powers if you didn't defeat them fast enough. Tsoo Sorcerors and Malta Gunslingers would teleport all over the place. They each felt unique.
And it wasn't just the enemies which felt varied and unique; the lore of the game was well thought out, almost no conflicts. There was an entire alternate history from the end of World War I onwards that integrated the existence of large amounts of superpowered individuals in a way that didn't ignore the consequences or the real-world civil issues in each decade. From a government-regulated vigilantism system, to the issues of supers on trial needing to be judged by their powered peers, to tackling superpowered minorities being forcibly enlisted during older time periods and having that being overturned, to a secret cabal of non-powered people trying to force supers into being subhuman assets rather than people, from the Cold War even into the modern era, the lore and worldbuilding, from large scale to small, was intricate and vast. Some of it you'd only see referenced in plaques scattered throughout the city, or in badge descriptions, which made it feel even more interwoven into the game. There was history here, if only you looked for it. And none of the lore disqualified any player-made backstories, either. There was always another Earth or other planet where things may not have gone the same way, and if the circumstances of your empowerment didn't lend itself to neatly fitting in with this world's maybe you were just passing through. There was so much to work with for roleplayers as well as those who just wanted to get in and play.
Badges themselves took the place of an early form of achievements, and for some players, myself included, acquiring as many badges as possible was a powerful motivation. Every badge, whether it was for PvP kills, completing certain story arcs, doing Incarnate trials or Task Forces under specific challenge conditions, even just being near certain locations in game, had a title attached to it, which when selected would be displayed under your character name for all to see. If you were particularly proud of a given accomplishment, or you had unlocked a title that went well with your character backstory, there was something for you to display. My personal favorite was called "Army of Me", given during a villain-side story arc where you fought eight clones of yourself at once, and won.
One of the additions to the game was user generated content, also known as the Architect System. It allowed players to design an instanced map, create enemies with custom looks and powers, and weave in dialogue and story to create player made content with as much attention to detail you liked. Some players used it for powerleveling, as enemies defeated within Architect missions did give out experience, which gave it a somewhat controversial status, but it also gave a creative outlet for storytelling to those who wanted further platforms to perform. Even established authors of physical books, such as Mercedes Lackey and Jim Butcher, used the system to expand their storytelling capabilities.
The seasonal events added wonderful flair to what would be otherwise standard events. Trick or Treating during Halloween is one of the most well remembered ones in the forums I've read. The New Year's and Valentine's were entertaining takes on holidays that don't get much presence in MMOs, and the Summer Blockbuster "be in a movie" event is something I haven't replicated anywhere else.
With all of these tremendous and loyalty-inspiring features, customization, and content, to the point that people who played City of Heroes/Villains still talk about them and compare them favorably to more modern games, it is confounding that more games do not handle their own systems as effectively as a game released months even before World of Warcraft. Sidekicking and Exemplaring, even, is something that more games should look at, instead of trying to balance all content to the same skill or stat level. ESO does what it does well enough, with One Tamriel, and FF14 tries to make all the classes capable of progressing through the story, but with ESO, most of the enemies feel the same, just reskinned over five or six enemy types, and FF14 forces grouping to progress story while encouraging those doing the content again into speedrunning it at the cost of those experiencing it for the first time.
With the recent closure announcement of Master x Master, after mere months, those players who formed attachments to the characters taken from other NCSoft games have the opportunity to interact with them in their home territory - except for Statesman and Ghost Widow. The abrupt shutdown of Marvel Heroes left players bereft of a home, as we former City of Heroes players can well sympathize with. Champions Online hasn't seen a major content update in ages, and DCUO is limited in what it can offer by existing canon. Neither of those games can match the freedom of choice laid out in City of Heroes/Villains.
Now, more than ever, there is reason and motivation to restore access to the game servers. Superhero interest is huge, buoyed by the Marvel and DC movie universes. But with the closures of Master x Master and Marvel Heroes, the almost afterthought status of DCUO and Champions Online, and the spiritual successor projects not slated for a release until late in 2018, there is a potentially massive demographic that goes unfulfilled, unable to express their own super-powered creative impulses. Providing a couple of legacy servers, in the vein of the upcoming World of Warcraft Classic Server, would tap this market, not just of nostalgic older players, but of new ones willing and eager to see why the veterans care so much, five years on. In a low-risk, high-reward project, fewer resources could be directed towards servers that remain in the Issue 23/24 state the game was in during the last days than would need to be given to new projects requiring a full development cycle, but it would still turn a profit. As mentioned earlier, I, myself, spent hundreds of dollars in the Paragon Market cash shop, on top of the $15/month subscription, because unlike most cash shops, the Paragon Market contained content worth paying for. I took a plane across the country to participate in the 2012 Player Summit. And while making barely minimum wage at McDonald’s, too. I don't think I'm alone in saying that I would gladly welcome the opportunity to do so again.
The closure of City of Heroes/Villains led me to try many other games, but I could not make any great attachment to any of them; after all, it's hard to feel much at all when your heart gets ripped out. 5 years later, I still grieve, and other games seem to serve merely as temporary distractions. As do many other refugees of City of Heroes, I know of several people who regret not playing the game when it was live, and, finding merely reading Paragon Wiki pages insufficient, would do so were it to return. A graphical overhaul would be unnecessary. The game’s dated graphics do in fact make it more approachable, as curious would-be players do not need to invest in expensive computers to play it at enjoyable settings and framerate. In fact, the game's graphics fit its mood and approach already; it's not broken, no need to fix it. Though I tend to play a lot of older games, so take that as you will.
I found my best friend while playing City of Heroes/Villains, and I would love nothing more than to be able to bring her the news that we could go home. Because Paragon Chat, as wonderful and painful as it is to visit, as amazing a technological accomplishment as it is, is closer to being a postcard of home, than home itself. I’m pleased that it exists, and glad for those who found what made City of Heroes their home accessible in it.
Five years ago, City of Heroes plunged into a sunset that set tens of thousands adrift. It is past time that a new dawn rose over the streets of Paragon City, the Rogue Isles, and Praetoria, welcoming home the many who were left wandering. Whether NCSoft is the one to restore access to our home, or someone like Disney/Marvel successfully approaches them to buy or license the server access, I guarantee that I will be there to create a new account, activate a subscription, and will be playing no other games for months, at least - and I won't be alone.

How does the token (FUN) derive value?
FunFair does not issue dividends or offer profit sharing – FunFair doesn't have much to share. The technology will be licensed to casino operators for almost nothing – itself a major draw for existing casino operators to adopt the FunFair platform. With a fixed supply, the value in FUN is derived from scarcity of the token in the marketplace. Scarcity comes from four sources:
  • Casinos holding FUN as part of their bankroll (described more below);
  • Players holding FUN and not cashing it out immediately after they play;
  • Speculators (investors) holding FUN anticipating it will increase in value;
  • Token burn: a small amount of FUN will be slowly destroyed over time. The exact amount has not been announced, though it will likely be quite small.
That first scarcity factor will be key, as casinos will need extremely large bankrolls of FUN to operate a large casino with multiple games, high max bets, and a large number of seats (allowing numerous people to play concurrently).
Right now, price has been set purely by speculators.
