Ridiculous tournament screw-up by choctaw casino in durant, oK
I just got back from a day at Choctaw. I don't play live often but this place isn't too far so I thought I'd have some fun. Was going to play cash for a while to claim bonus chips for the nightly tournament which I did. Since it's 4th of July weekend, I'm pleasantly surprised to see that the tournament is larger than usual. 200$ buy-in for 8k chips. freezeout, 50$ bounty, and 15k$ guaranteed not including tickets to a mega satty for a WPT main buy-in. Sounds great. So we play for a while and at the first break there's around 90 entrants (overlaid pretty bad, awesome). Then there's a commotion and someone storms off to the TD. Turns out, dealers at the back two tables gave everyone who sat down a 20k starting stack. not 8. With level 1 at 25/50. And of course the players didn't say anything. To try and make things better everyone not at those tables got 10k in chips and we played the most deep-stacked tourney i've ever heard of. Given that it was a bounty that's obviously not ideal, not to mention it would be about 3 or 4am before a winner was declared. They screw up stuff every now and then but this is definitely a first. I can't really recommend playing anything but cash games if you go to Choctaw. They need poker players running the tournaments and poker dealers dealing. Instead they have someone from the pit as TD and bring up blackjack dealers to fill all the tables. Stick to cash to maximize EV.
