skybet league one prediction

skybet league one prediction - win

You know your team is struggling for a reason when:

They get mad at you for being too harsh in your teamtalk, after struggling to dominate against the team which haven’t won a single one of their first 5 games in Skybet League 1.
Backstory: I noticed Bolton got relegated to Skybet league 1 in 2030, in my fm18 save game, so I thought: “it would be fun making another manager and use them to develop my Manchester United youngsters while I’m in control of how much they play”
The squad seemed decent at first look and they were predicted to finish on a 1st place, so It seemed like a walk in the park with a few Promising players on the way with my help.
It started out great with a 4-0 win in the first game and a 1-0 win against Stoke in the capital one cup (middle team in the Prem, 2030). After 5 games without any trouble it started going the wrong way, I was playing against Luton, 18th place, and lost 3-1 because I decided to rest some of my better players (I got James Ward-Prowse & Harry Winks on free transfers).
I then went all in against Bradford in the next game, 22. in the league. They got in front after 1 minute and I was about to go mad already. I told the lads to concentrate and 7 minutes later it was 1-1. The rest of the first half was boring and I tried motivating my players for the 2. Half.
10 minutes in and it is 2-1 to us and we start dominating. Alright, we are back in form now; but bloody no! They score to 2-2 and the clock starts ticking away without any chances being created. In the 84th minute a highlight comes up, the ball gets fumbled back to the opponents goalkeeper from their defender, my striker snatches it and scores! I’m delighted, but it shouldn’t have been such a struggle. I therefore choose to say: “it was a bit of a disappointment, we should do better against a stronger side next time”
Every player except James Ward-Prowse and Harry Winks reacts badly and after the game the squad decides they want to have a chat with me because they think I was too hard.
Half of the squad wanted to make a move away from the club in pre-season because they didn’t deserve to play on such a low lvl. (or so they thought!) and still they act like entitled cry babies because I tell them they are shit.
Well.... I’m glad I can make some transfers in January with such a lack of mentality and I can surely understand how everything went so bad lol.

[Pre-Match] Derby County v Hull City [PLAYOFF SEMIFINAL]

SkyBet Championship Play-Offs 2015/16

Previous Meetings This Season

05/04/2016 - Derby County 4 - 0 Hull City

Bradley Johnson scores 2, with Martin and Bryson adding another each. Even before Hull's red card we played them off the park, and a similar performance would put one foot into the final.

27/11/2016 - Hull City 0 - 2 Derby County

Jacob Butterfield scores twice in a game which sent Derby to the top of the table going into a busy winter period that saw the Rams fall outside of automatic contention.
Derby have kept clean sheets against Hull twice already this season, but the playoffs are a completely different prospect, and must reproduce to progress further. Playing at home first means that the Rams must take a lead into the away fixture to give themselves the best possible chance of playing at Wembley.
A theme in the fixtures this season has been goals from midfield, with 5 of the 6 goals coming from typically central midfielders. This may be the key to unlocking Hull again, whose defense has usually been tight this campaign with Dawson and Davies being their key men at the back.
Going forward Hull will want to make full use of players like Robert Snodgrass and Abel Hernandez, and they will want to breach that Derby net for the first time this season. It's going to be a tight contest between two good clubs, with both desperate for a return to the Premier League.

Match Preview
Whilst Bobby Zamora's late winner for QPR was being picked out of the net at Wembley at the end of last season, the Derby fans were reeling in shock at having their hopes of facing the Premier League's elite shattered. Having faced off against Chelsea in a feisty clash back in January in the FA Cup, the Rams wanted more.
The Blues were ultimately too strong for County 11 months ago, but what an experience it was particularly for the fans and younger players in the Derby County squad, such as Will Hughes and Mason Bennett. Tomorrow will see a rematch of that tie, this time in the last 8 of the 2014/15 Capital One Cup.
A lot can change in a year's time in football, and Chelsea have gone from strength to strength after completing the final pieces of the jigsaw in the January and Summer transfer windows. They currently sit atop the most competitive league in the world, and until recently looked as if it would be a matter of when, and not if, they would win the league.
Derby, meanwhile, have been buoyed by securing long-term contracts for much of their key players, and would find themselves top of the SkyBet Championship if not for a limp showing at the weekend. Steve McClaren would've liked his side to head into tomorrow's game full of confidence, in a 1st place clash, but it was not to be. The Rams, barring goalkeeper Lee Grant, simply did not show up in Teeside and paid the price.
So far Derby have dispatched Carlisle United, Charlton Athletic, Reading, and Fulham en route to the fifth round. Chelsea, by virtue of entering later, have taken care of just Bolton Wanderers and Shrewsbury Town by 2 goals to 1 on both occasions.
The Rams will be in full voice tomorrow evening, with nothing to lose against one Europe's strongest sides - and everything to gain. The added experience, and incentive, of facing Premier League opposition could prove invaluable heading into the festive period.
Chelsea fans will be expecting an entertaining game, but only progression will do after two years of disappointing exits. It is all set up to be a great watch, and I hope you'll join me here in the Match Thread tomorrow evening!

On paper this game is pretty much already won, but Southampton are a side that play better away from home when against the better sides. They are a team that on their day can sit back and defend against anyone in the league and break on the counter with clinical efficiency. They'll need to be on top of their game, but they can definitely upset Leicester on Sunday.
I am cautiously optimistic. My prediction: 1-1

So, one of the few games remaining this season where Spurs will be expected to drop points. Lets pray that Liverpool are firing on all cylinders, as they could very easily inflict a heavy, demoralising loss on our North London neighbours. Or they could roll over and get smashed.
I am backing Liverpool to do us and our GD a favour and win by at least 2 goals. My prediction: 3-1

Man City

Bournemouth (13th) v Man City (4th) 15.00 GMT (10.00 EST), Saturday 2nd April Referee: Robert Madley
I have been asking myself if I'd rather West Ham or Man City get 4th place (assuming the top 3 positions are decided) and as fun as it would be to see City miss out on the top 4 it might not be very good for us.
They will undoubtedly be able to attract almost any player that would be willing to join the Premier League because of their money and their manager, and without the distraction of Champions League football they would probably end up walking the league.
Unless their form improves though they may end up completely out of Europe though - 4 points in their last 6 PL games is a poor return for any team that isn't Villa, and a CL tie against PSG means Pellegrini has got some serious management to do if he is to stay ahead of United and West Ham. A couple more bad weeks and they could be facing a battle for 6th with Southampton and Liverpool. My Prediction: 1-2

West Ham

West Ham (5th) v Crystal Palace (16th) 15.00 GMT (10.00 EST), Saturday 2nd April Referee: Mark Clattenburg
As much as I would like to see West Ham break in to the top 4, for the reasons listed above I don't think it would be good for us.
That said, they are the form team at the moment, and a win could put them in to the top 4 for the first time since October. They would probably already be there if not for a dubious penalty awarded to Chelsea just before the international break.
Crystal Palace are really struggling at the moment, so maybe the international break came at the right time for them, and has allowed them to regroup and get back to their early season form. I don't think that would be enough to stop West Ham though. My prediction: 2-0

Man Utd

Man United (6th) v Everton (12th) 16.00 GMT (11.00 EST), Sunday 3rd April Referee: Andre Marriner
It almost feels bad seeing United so far down the table, and I am sure seeing that is one of the reasons our own board are so reluctant to unsteady the ridiculously steady ship that is Arsenal.
Nonetheless a recent mini resurgence of form, led by their young academy striker Marcus Rashford seems to show a light at the end of the tunnel for United. They host Everton, who have been nothing if not entertaining this season, and I am expecting another great match. My prediction: 1-2 (and Lukaku to bully Chris Smalling for 90 minutes)

Final Word

One of the last weekends where we should be expecting to make ground on the top 2. Maybe the international break has made me forget the pain of supporting Arsenal, but I am feeling optimistic about this weekend. The table should make for a lot nicer reading come Sunday evening.
Thoughts?

NEVILLE DEFENDS EMERY

Gary Neville has defended Arsenal's new head coach Unai Emery amid criticism over his tactics during his first two Premier League games in charge.
Arsenal have lost both of their games this season against Manchester City and Chelsea but Neville insists that he has seen improvement early on in Emery's reign.
"For me, the idea of what the coach has been trying to work on is there," he said on Monday Night Football. "He is trying to undo quite a lot of the bad habits, to be quite honest with you, that have been going on for the last five or six years, that those players have had in them.
"But the principle is there and that's a big change for me. It's a big step forward and if I were Unai Emery after these first two games against Manchester City and Chelsea I would be taking the positives."

BETIS EYE ZINCHENKO

Real Betis are interested in signing Manchester City's versatile Ukrainian Oleksandr Zinchenko but are waiting for Pep Guardiola's side to allow him to leave, reports ABC de Sevilla.
The Premier League champions may still require his services this season, but Betis are ready to arrange a loan deal should he become available.
The player's agent was in Seville last week to agree personal terms. Zinchenko turned down a permanent move to Wolves earlier in the summer.
10:26

BARCELONA KEEN ON DE JONG

Barcelona are making another attempt to sign Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong, according to Sport.
The club have already had one bid rejected, but the 21-year-old could leave this season if Ajax fail to win their Champions League playoff tie against Dynamo Kyiv.
10:07

EVERTON SET LOOKMAN PRICE

Everton are demanding £28m plus add-ons for Ademola Lookman to join RB Leipzig, according to Sky sources.
Sky Sports News reported on Monday that Leipzig had made a fresh £22m offer for the 20-year-old winger after he impressed during a loan spell with the club in the second half of last season.
The German side have remained keen to sign him before their August 31 transfer deadline, with manager Ralf Rangnick stating earlier this summer: "We want him back and he wants to come."
Everton boss Marco Silva has said this summer that he wants to keep the player, that Lookman is the club’s “present and future”, and he was doing everything “to make him happy again”.
RB Leipzig head of recruitment Paul Mitchell - a potential candidate for Manchester United's new technical director role - is thought to be a long-term admirer of Lookman, who joined Everton from Charlton Athletic.

BASSONG TRAINING WITH QPR

Former Tottenham and Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong is training with QPR.

Rangers are bottom of the Championship having lost their first three league games – the latest a 7-1 defeat at West Brom on Saturday.

Bordeaux have begun preliminary talks with Thierry Henry’s representatives about the possibility of becoming their next manager, Sky Sports News understands.
The Ligue 1 side suspended current manager Gus Poyet on Friday after he labelled the French club a "disgrace" and the Uruguayan has said he no longer wishes to continue.
Arsene Wenger confirmed that Henry was interested in the job yesterday and said that he has the 'qualities' to be a success.

BHOYS IN FOR BRUMA

Sky Sports News reported earlier that Celtic are preparing a bid for Aberdeen central defender Scott McKenna but another player on their radar is Dutch defender Jeffrey Bruma.
According to Bild, Wolfsburg are open to selling him this summer for £5m after he was left out of their matchday squad against SV Elversberg at the weekend.
Bruma has been capped 25 times by the Netherlands and lists PSV, Hamburg, Leicester and Chelsea as his former clubs.

LIVINGSTON SIGN TOGO STAR

Manager-less Livingston have signed Togo international Steve Tevi Lawson.
The 24-year old fullback agreed to join the club at the weekend, before the departure of Kenny Miller.
Lawson has played 6 times for Togo – his most recent club was Neuchatel Xamax in Switzerland.

BRENTFORD SIGN DASILVA

Brentford have confirmed the signing of Josh Dasilva with the 19-year-old signing a four-year contract.
Dasilva opted to reject a contract offer from Arsenal at the end of his deal and as such Brentford will have to pay the Premier League club a compensation fee.
Phil Giles, Brentford's Co-Director of Football, said: "It is great that Brentford now has a reputation for being able to offer that to the best young players and that they are keen to join us."

CELTIC PREPARING MCKENNA BID

Celtic are preparing to bid for Aberdeen’s £10m-rated defender Scott McKenna, Sky Sports News understands.
The Dons have turned down bids for the 21-year old Scottish international from Hull and Swansea in the last two transfer windows.
Aberdeen are understood to value their centre half at around £10m which is some way off Celtic’s valuation of the player.
Aberdeen maintain their player is not for sale. He is contracted until 2023 having signed two new long-term deals in the past 12 months.

DENAYER JOINS LYON

Manchester City's Belgium international defender Jason Denayer has joined Ligue 1 club Lyon on a permanent deal.
Denayer joined City in 2013 and spent time on loan at Celtic, Galatasaray (twice) and Sunderland without making a competitive appearance for his parent club.
It is being reported that the fee for Denayer is €10m with a potential €3.5m in add-ons.

KLOPP: EVERYONE LOVES NABY

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that everyone at Liverpool loves summer signing Naby Keita and that he believes the Guinean midfielder will continue to improve following an impressive display against Crystal Palace.
"He's very shy and not very extroverted but on the pitch you don't see it. He needs to settle a little bit. He's next to Sadio all the time [in training]," Klopp told Monday Night Football.
"Everybody loves Naby but I don't know if he loves us because he doesn't speak a lot. But football-wise you can see the potential is outstanding but we have to give him time."

BARCA STANDING FIRM OVER RAKITIC

PSG have been linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic but the La Liga club will not sell the Croatian for anything less than his €125m buyout fee, report Marca.
That would likely rule the Ligue 1 champions out of a deal as their hands are tied due to Financial Fair Play regulations following the blockbuster signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
08:24

CHELSEA WANT LOFTUS-CHEEK STAY

Chelsea want to keep Ruben Loftus-Cheek amid interest from clubs in Germany, Spain and France.
Loftus-Cheek has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the summer arrivals of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic while Ross Barkley has also been picked ahead of him.
After playing for England at the World Cup, Loftus-Cheek was not named in Chelsea's 18-man squad against Arsenal on Saturday and he is said to be considering his options.

DORTMUND AFTER ALCACER

Borussia Dortmund are keen on a deal to sign Paco Alcacer on loan from Barcelona, reports L'Equipe.
Alcacer is not part of Ernesto Valverde's plans for the coming season and has been linked with Valencia, Real Betis and Alaves.
Dortmund are seeking a replacement for Michy Batshuayi who has joined Valencia on loan.

MURRAY THANKFUL FOR PL OPPORTUNITY

Brighton striker Glenn Murray has thanked Chris Hughton for giving him an opportunity in the Premier League and not replacing him with a big-name player as other promoted clubs have done.
"You see with some of the promoted teams this year that they have got rid of some players and have brought some big names in. Thankfully our manager did not do that," Murray said.
"He gave everyone that helped the club to the Premier League an opportunity in the Premier League and I think most of us have taken that opportunity."

HARPER RETURNS TO MAGPIES

Former goalkeeper Steve Harper has returned to Newcastle to join the club's backroom staff, five years after leaving the club in 2013.
Harper was Newcastle's longest-serving player, first breaking through as an 18-year-old in 1993, and will become their goalkeeping coach with the club's Under-23 and Under-18 sides.

CARRAGHER: VAN DIJK WORTH £75M

Jamie Carragher believes that Virgil Van Dijk's man of the match display against Crystal Palace shows why Liverpool spent £75m to sign him from Southampton in January.
"Tonight is the reason why you spend £75m on Virgil van Dijk," Jamie Carragher said on Monday Night Football following Liverpool's 2-0 win at Selhurst Park.
"There were two or three minutes to go and Liverpool give away a free-kick in a dangerous position. He wins the first header and it goes out for a corner. Then the next one comes in and that is where the breakaway comes, and that's the goal."

CITY SUFFER BRAVO BLOW

Manchester City were one of five clubs to vote against bringing the transfer deadline forward last summer and they might be lamenting their luck after seeing two players sidelined with injuries.
Following the news that Kevin De Bruyne will be out for up to three months with a knee injury, City have confirmed that No.2 goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has ruptured his Achilles tendon.
City will be unable to sign a replacement for the Chilean until January so young academy graduate Daniel Grimshaw is in line for a promotion to provide backup to Ederson.
06:33

NEVILLE'S PLEA TO WOODWARD

There's more fall-out to Manchester United's defeat at Brighton - with Gary Neville issuing a plea to chief executive Ed Woodward to improve the club's transfer strategy.
"Ed Woodward's job is to deliver profits on and off the pitch," he told Monday Night Football. "Profit on the pitch is performance and trophies - league titles and Champions Leagues.
"The club are delivering off the field, Ed Woodward has done an incredible job in terms of the commercial operation and the way in which the club makes an operating profit, but there is no doubt he should put a footballing structure underneath him that his extremely serious and can go and deliver for him on the pitch."

CARRAGHER EXPECTS MOURINHO EXIT

Jamie Carragher does not think Jose Mourinho will be Manchester United manager next season and suggested he could even leave the club at some point in this campaign.
"I'm not jumping to a knee-jerk reaction because Manchester United lost a game away from home," he told Monday Night Football.
"But after what's happened in the summer, if performances like that continue, I don't think Jose Mourinho will be the manager of Manchester United next season - he may not be manager at some time this season.
"There will be coaches up and down the country looking at what Mourinho said in the summer about bringing players in, a centre-back. [Of the four they have] Jose has spent £30m on two of them and two are England internationals in Phil Jones and Chris Smalling."

A LATE ONE FROM LAST NIGHT

In pretty much the dead of night last night it was confirmed Mario Balotelli would be staying at Nice, despite various links with other clubs.
Balotelli even failed to report back for pre-season training initially, but Nice's twitter account has now confirmed the Italian forward will remain with them this season.
"The Italian international expressed his wishes to the directors," they said. "There will be a third season for the forward. The agreement was signed by all parties on Monday evening.
"Suspended for the first 3 games of Ligue 1, the Gym's forward, who has scored 43 goals since arriving at the club, will be available for selection next week, ready for the trip to Lyon.

Preview
On the back of a heated 1-1 draw at the City Ground with fierce rivals Nottingham Forest, Derby County must go again Wednesday night in another difficult away trip to Blackburn Rovers. Ewood Park has proved unfruitful for the Rams in recent times, with their last win at the ground coming back in 2001, and Steve McClaren's side have yet to replicate any of last season's form thus far.
Rovers are in the middle of a patchy phase to say the least, with their six fixtures alternating wins and losses, one week winning 3 - 1 only to lose their next fixture by the same scoreline. Manager Gary Bowyer will be looking to chain together his first consecutive wins of the season with a good performance over a Derby County side yet to make their mark on the new season.
Last time out loanee Ryan Shotton replaced a strong performer in Cyrus Christie at right back, but it is expected that Christie be reinstated Wednesday evening having not featured at the weekend.
Commanding centre back Jake Buxton will not feature tomorrow however, having picked up a red card against Nottingham Forest and it's relevant suspension. Zak Whitbread is therefore expected to slot in alongside captain Richard Keogh as the Rams look to keep their first league clean sheet in a month.
Blackburn will fancy their chances having won three and drawn three of their last seven fixtures with Derby, and one man to fire them to the points could well be hitman Jordan Rhodes who has three to his name so far this season. However, a draw could well be on the cards if last season's pair of 1-1 draws are anything to go by.
From this midweek fixture both managers will be looking to establish some form of consistency, and build up some momentum heading into another busy schedule in the SkyBet Championship. Two clubs with Premier League ambitions surely need to start racking up the points soon or risk being left some way behind the pack.
Team News
Derby County
  • Jamie Ward may make his return following an injury with Northern Ireland
  • Jake Buxton is suspended so will see no part of the action
  • Jeff Hendrick remains injured for around another 4 weeks with a dislocated shoulder
  • With many just having played at the weekend, the likes of Omar Mascarell and Leon Best could be inline for rare starts
  • Jordon Ibe came off the bench last time out, could he make his first start in a Derby County shirt?
Blackburn Rovers
  • Gary Bowyer has no fresh injury worries, so will likely pick a largely unchanged side with perhaps a few fresh faces
  • David Dunn is out with a minor niggle, while Tommy Spurr and Jason Lowe are also injured

[Pre Match] Bolton Wanderers v Derby County

Match Information - Bolton Wanderers v Derby County
SkyBet Championship 2015/16
  • Date: 08/08/2015
  • Venue: Macron Stadium, Bolton
  • Kick-off: 15:00 GMT
Talking Points
  • NEW FOOTBALL LEAGUE SEASON!
  • New Signings: Ince, Weimann, Shackell, Bent, Carson, Baird, Pearce
  • Almost entirely fit squad, lots of competition for places
  • Need a good start to the season after the end to the previous campaign
  • New Manager's first game in charge in any competition fixture for any club
  • Bolton News: Missing defenders through injury, Heskey renews contract, More free signings in
  • One to watch: Zach Clough. Scored 6 in 10 games last season, the young lad has been at Bolton since the age of 8, and will feature more prominently this season.
Pazzyboi's Prediction: I think with defenders missing and new signings only just arriving for Bolton we should be on the front foot. We have an almost complete squad available, and so many options it's almost embarrassing.
Being away on the first day, and after last year, I'd go for midfield control over 2 up front, and play 4-3-3 / 4-5-1:
Carson/Grant Baird Shackell Keogh Forsyth Thorne Hughes Hendrick Ince ------------------ Russell Martin
Johnny Russell has had a great pre-season so I would give him the nod over new signing Andi Weimann. Also Baird over Christie or Ssewankambo because of his experience and prevalence in pre-season. I suspect we will run with the diamond with 2 up front however.
I think we should have no problem finding goals, but we have a lot of new defenders who may not be fully settled. Going for a 3-1 win with Martin opening his account, and Zach Clough to grab one on the break for Bolton.

  • George Thorne remains fit after returning from his lengthy spell on the sidelines, and is likely to start once more tomorrow afternoon
  • Derby currently sit top of the league and have won their last two games. Fulham are without a win in their last 6, and would have to upset the form books in order to claim all 3 points tomorrow
  • Top scorer Chris Martin remains on the sidelines for the Rams, and Darren Bent is certain to keep his place leading the line. Tom Ince and Jesse Lingard will also think they have done enough to keep their places.

Preview
On the second match day of the new Football League season, two 100% records will be put to the test as Derby County travel to the famous Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday. The Rams come off the back of a 2-0 away win in the Capital One Cup, and a narrow 1-0 victory at home to newly promoted Rotherham. Meanwhile, Wednesday battled hard to a 1-0 win away to Brighton and breezed past Notts County 3-0 at home.
Owls fans had been pessimistic ahead of the new season, with many pundits tipping them for possible relegation. However, they have looked solid at the back, and played some good stuff, especially in their latest fixture. Add to that a new arrival in Stevie May set to make his debut on Saturday, and Wednesday look a more difficult test than back in February.
However, Derby have an exceptional record against the Owls in recent times - with the Rams unbeaten since 2006, and have only lost 7 competitive fixtures in 2014, including the 2013/14 Play-Off Final and a cup tie with Premier League favourites Chelsea.
The most recent meeting between these two, earlier this year, had high flying Derby County struggle to overcome a resolute Sheffield Wednesday side who were unlucky not to take something from the game. However, Chelsea loanee Patrick Bamford's incredible strike in the second half was enough to secure 3 points for the travelling Rams.
Since then Wednesday boss Stuart Gray has brought in a few new signings including free transfer Sam Hutchinson, striker Stevie May and new Goalkeeper Kieren Westwood from Sunderland, and has a settled centre back pairing in Glenn Loovens and Tom Lees which hasn't conceded a goal thus far.
A settled Derby side is unlikely to rotate much as manager Steve McClaren has insisted upon continuation to generate momentum at the start of the new season. Midfielder Jeff Hendrick is sure to keep his place following his second goal in as many games on Monday night, and Jake Buxton is likely to be reinstated after being rested against Carlisle.
While the outcome is hard to predict, one thing is for certain ahead of Saturday's clash at Hillsborough - the atmosphere is sure to be electric. With the Owls' first home game of the SkyBet Championship season generating huge buzz at home, there are also likely to be over 4,000 Derby County supporters making the journey up the M1, with an attendance sure to break the 30,000 barrier.
Two 100% records, with both sides yet to concede. Something has to change by the end of Saturday's fixture.
Team News
Derby County
  • Jake Buxton will surely be reinstated in the starting line-up, with Zak Whitbread likely to drop to the bench
  • The midfield trio of Hughes, Bryson and Hendrick have all done enough to keep their place, though the experienced John Eustace may be called upon
  • Leon Best came on and looked sharp against Carlisle, so may well feature again for Steve McClaren's Derby
  • We are likely to see all of Russell, Ward, Dawkins and Martin at some stage of the afternoon
  • Will we see more of Real Madrid loanee Omar Mascarell?
Sheffield Wednesday
  • The Owls' defensive five are unlikely to change with Westwood in goal, Palmer, Lees, Loovens and Mattock in defence
  • New signing Dejan Kelhar will not feature due to suffering an ACL injury, most likely ending his season already
  • Stevie May should make his debut up front for Wednesday
  • Hutchinson and Lee almost certain to form the midfield partnership after impressing thus far
Talking Points
  • Who would you bring into the side that hasn't featured yet?
  • Would you like to see the likes of Coutts and Mascarell get some minutes?

  • The winner at Portman Road in the early kickoff on Saturday will find themselves inside the top 2, a win for Ipswich would see them top ahead of the later kickoffs, and Derby would require a huge win in order to do the same.
  • Ipswich have the best home record in the division by 4 points (ahead of Derby in 2nd), and have lost only one at home all season whilst picking up 9 wins out of 12. Derby have amongst the best away record in the league, but Portman Road has been a fortress so far.
  • Darren Bent will be available to make his on loan debut for the Rams, and would love to find a winner against his first professional club. Leon Best has been sent back to Blackburn in response to his arrival, and he will be confident of making a bigger impact during his 6 month stay.
  • This could potentially be the biggest match of the season for either side, as both look to break away from the chasing pack. Most fans would take a draw, but if all three points can be taken for either side it would lay down a huge marker.

It is a familiar situation for Derby County. Having found themselves top of the SkyBet Championship table a fortnight ago after fighting hard to be there, they have since lost 3 of their last 4 games (albeit one against Chelsea). The away losses to Leeds and Middlesbrough have brought the rams down to 4th, and they now need to bounce back quickly.
Norwich have recovered from a November where they won only 1 league point, to win back to back games in December thus far. Following an early red card, the Canaries come into tomorrow's game after dismantling Huddersfield 5 - 0 last weekend.
A win for either side is crucial heading into the festive period, with 3 points potentially putting the Rams back top, and similarly for Norwich it could see a return to the prized play-off places.
Derby have lost only one league home game, coming against Wigan in October, and have won their last 3 at the iPro. Norwich meanwhile won their first away game since September against Wigan earlier this month.
Steve McClaren will be demanding all three points from Derby's third televised game in a week. Anything else could see the Rams slide from the top 2 places over Christmas, something which is not acceptable given his expectations. The canaries

After weeks of waiting the new football season began in earnest this weekend, with Capital One Cup opponents Carlisle United and Derby County both beginning their new campaigns at home. Heading into Monday evening's contest are clubs at different ends of the football league system, both suffering heartbreaking ends to their previous seasons.
While Derby were anticipating an ultimately unsuccessful Play-Off Final against QPR, Carlisle United were contemplating life in the basement of the Football League following a disappointing campaign that left them 5 points short of safety and, ultimately, relegated to League 2.
Fast forward to the new season, while the Rams were celebrating a late winner by Jeff Hendrick on the opening day of the new SkyBet Championship season, Carlisle were staring down the barrel of a narrow home defeat to newly promoted - and hotly tipped - Luton Town.
Having played just two days prior, it is expected that we see a number of fringe players appear for the Rams on Monday night, including a possible start for goalkeeper Kelle Roos who impressed in pre-season.
Cumbrians manager Graham Kavanagh may not have the same number of options afforded to him as Steve McClaren, however, he will also surely have to rest some tired legs and bring in some fresh faces - albeit with more keeping their places.
These two clubs have not faced off in some time, since they last met in this competition back in the Autumn of 1990. A home tie for Carlisle in the League Cup was tied at one apiece - forcing a replay at the Baseball Ground, which Derby were to win 1-0 in the last fixture between these sides.
Given the number of fresh players available for Derby, and their higher league status, they are heavy favourites despite being given the Away draw. However, the Blues will be looking to make the trip as difficult as possible and Derby have struggled in this competition in the past - having won just 1 of their previous 5 first round League Cup fixtures.
Team News
Derby County
  • Jake Buxton recovered from a knock to feature in Derby's first league fixture, and therefore wouldn't be expected to feature just two days later. However, the Rams are short of options at Centre Half with injuries to O'Brien and Whitbread
  • The Rams are fairly injury free besides defensive problems, and the long term injury to new signing George Thorne
  • Non-starters from the opening fixtures such as Roos, Naylor, Eustace, Best, Bennett, Ward and Sammon will all be vying for places in the starting 11
Carlisle United
  • The Cumbrians have a relatively small squad of just 22 players, with no fixed under-21 side to speak of. Therefore, more starters will keep their places due to a lack of options
  • Expect goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and the likes of Gary Dicker and Billy Paynter to keep their places

  • Will Hughes and Craig Bryson remain injured
  • Two poor performances to start the season, massive improvement needed here
  • Interestingly we face Charlton coming off a big win against Dagenham & Redbridge at Home, just like our last opponents Portsmouth
  • Charlton won their opening fixture convincingly 2-0 at home to QPR
  • Darren Bent, Simon Dawkins, and Lee Grant are three that under-performed midweek, and are unlikely to keep their places
  • One to watch: Tony Watt. The young striker, formerly of Celtic, famously scored against Barcelona in the Champions League. Still only 21, he already has 2 goals to his name this season. He didn't start the season's opener, but after his performances he may well start this one.
Pazzyboi's Preview: An improved performance is direly needed as our season has really yet to begin. Thankfully our defeat didn't come in the competition that should be our primary focus, the SkyBet Championship, but it has to be the wake up call we need.
Charlton have won both of their fixtures thus far, including a convincing home win over relegated QPR. However, I feel that the home advantage, and it being our first home game of the season, should give us an edge we desperately need.
As far as I'm concerned, until mistakes are made, Scott Carson should now be our first choice goalkeeper. Midweek also showed how much we miss Hughes and Bryson, and I really hope we bring one more face into the club in that area. Hendrick and Baird failed to control the midfield without Thorne, and it really showed when the latter came onto the pitch.
The starting lineup I would play is:
Carson Baird Shackell Keogh Forsyth Thorne Hendrick Ince Weimann Russell Martin
It is a tough one to figure out at the moment. Normally I'd go for a 4-3-3, but I think midweek showed me that a Hendrick and Baird midfield isn't the answer. As a result Sswankambo, who I thought did well against Pompey, misses out.
I want to see Weimann given a chance in the number 10 slot as I think he can really make a big impact there, with Ince good running at people out wide and cutting inside.
I'm going to predict a narrow 2-1 win, with us maybe not deserving it. A scrappy win which can help get the season moving

Match Preview
Top of the table Derby County travel to back to London to face Brentford after rebounding from their loss at the weekend, to roar to a 5 - 2 victory away at Fulham.
In their last league fixture, Derby's 11 match unbeaten run was brought to a halt by Wigan Athletic and the Rams will have to continue their winning away record to remain at the summit of the SkyBet Championship.
Meanwhile, Brentford haven't won in their last three league fixtures and will hope their midweek rest will give them an advantage at home, where they have only lost once so far this season in the league.
The two sides have only faced once in the last decade, where Derby thumped Brentford 5 - 0 at the iPro Stadium in the Capital One Cup last season.
However, tomorrow's fixture is likely to be a much tighter affair, with recently promoted Brentford performing well above expectations despite their recent dip in form, and tough to beat at home.
  • What are your predictions for tomorrow's away fixture?
  • Do you think we will go on another strong unbeaten run following a big win over Fulham?
