Skyfall Casino Scene

I’m talking about the actors themselves, not the movies they are in.
For me from worst to best it would be

George Lazenby - I don’t think he brought a single thing to the franchise and I think the movie would have been even better with either Connery or Moore tbh
Roger Moore - Of all the actors he seems almost like a parody of the character sometimes. I think Moore delivered his one liners better than any others but the way he played the character just isn’t my idea of Bond.
Sean Connery - I’m probably the only human in the world that doesn’t put Connery at #1 or maybe #2 if you ask someone with a hot take. I just think the franchise has improved over the years with who they select to play the character. It is a hard choice from 4 on up though, all 4 of these in my opinion were perfect actors and hell even with Moore I’m glad he got to be Bond. I don’t think they’ve had a bad casting yet tbh
Timothy Dalton - maybe he is here because of his short tenure but I really think he played and looked the part. With him I feel like he was the perfect choice for the two movies he was in.. well aside from my #1 but I couldn’t think of anyone else at the time to cast as Dalton was cast
Daniel Craig - 3, 2 and 1 are super close but I have to put Craig second. I think he’s the toughest of the 6 and I also think he looks the least the part of the 6. He does have 3 of my favorite movies in the franchise (Casino, Skyfall, Spectre) and maybe his performance is good in No Time To Die (if it’s ever gets released) will move him to #1
Pierce Brosnan - I think this man was plagued with mediocre scripts and I think he carried the hell out of those movies. If they had Moore, or Connery I think Tomorrow Never Dies and Tge World Is Not Enough go straight to the bottom. He is the image of Bond to me, he has the best gun barrel walk, the man screams Bond when you see him on stage. I wish he got more films.

Short Lived Mistakes, With Pleasure - Thoughts on Daniel Craig's tenure (so far)

This one took a little longer to get to, but I've finally finished Spectre today, so I've got my final writeup. I think it'll be a little controversial.

Casino Royale: I’m going to start off with a heresy: I don’t think this film is as good as its commonly said to be.
That doesn’t mean it’s bad, but it lacks…punch? I saw this one opening night, so it’s not a case of “you had to be there”. It just doesn’t really resonate with me as much as I think it does for others. Feels very mid-2000s action-y, and some of the tech use dates it as well. GoldenEye is definitely the better Martin Campbell film.
Quantum of Solace: I’ll just start off with the obvious; the cinematography is a mess in this film, though oddly it seems to begin a shift when we reach the opera house, becoming a much calmer film in general.
The good: David Arnold does a really, really good job with the score – so much so that I’m dying for him to come back in a future Bond film. Some of the shots are well done and nice to look at (particularly the hotel sequence), and the “I really think you should find a better place to meet” line was classic Bond. And, while I don’t usually put any particular emphasis on reviewing them, I think this film has one of the best opening credits sequences, with a some of the designs seeming to come from YOLT’s sequence.
The bad: The core plot feels like Baby’s First Political Thriller. The interesting thing is that Michael G. Wilson can write a good topical plot outline, as we saw with Licence To Kill, but this one falls flat for me. The revenge elements work better, thankfully, but not enough to save it. Going back to my earlier mention of the tone shift at the opera house, the story seems to enjoy a similar shift beginning around then. I know this film took place during the Writer’s Guild strike, and that Mark Forster and Daniel Craig had to do a lot of script massaging themselves as a result. I’d be really curious to know which team had a greater influence on which half.
Conclusion: I don’t see this one getting a boost in later years like LTK or TND, but we’ll see. It’s a shame, as I think there was potential for a very good film here, but what we got isn’t it. Still watchable though...as long as you disable any 120hz or higher refresh rates on your TV.
Skyfall: Quantum was the last Bond film I saw in the theatre, so this was my first time watching Skyfall. For the first forty minutes or so, I was beginning to wonder if my decision to skip it had been the right one – the movie really gets off on an odd leg, at least in my view. Thankfully, it picks up, and by the end I felt it was a good experimental Bond film, with much better execution than OHMSS. Also one of the better examples of how to do fanservice right.
Still not perfect though - the second half of the film is far too dark, and as someone in IT I can't get over how unbelievably stupid Q would have to be to hook an untrusted machine into the main network. And it shouldn't have been so easy for Silva to get into the room where M was speaking.
Not controversial enough yet? Well, just wait.
Spectre: Did Daniel Craig become Roger Moore when I wasn’t looking? I like Roger Moore and his time as Bond, but even he wouldn’t have pulled the sofa bit in the pre-title sequence. That’s Marvel-level garbage, and reeks of the rumored flying carpet bit that was cut from The Living Daylights.
So you're probably thinking I hate this one, right? Well, no. Apart from the couch bit, I actually think this is Daniel Craig's best Bond film. The plot feels topical without being so on-the-nose as Quantum was, Bond has a full supporting cast that isn't distrusting or incompetent, and we finally got the gun barrel opening. Not a perfect one, but seeing as the last one was 2002 I'll take it.
The plot does feel a bit thin at times, and I don't think they should continue this trend of connecting all the films, but this one time I'll take it. It's the most Bondian film he's done yet. Critics may not have liked it for that, but what do they know?

I'm interested to see how Craig's final outing is - will they retrench a bit toward the Casino/Skyfall formula that got them popular reviews, or continue bring the series back? Hopefully we don't have to wait past 2019 to find out.

Why Craig should come back once more (Spectre spoilers)

Despite being at best a messy and uneven ride, Spectre has given Bond something quite special, a girl to ride into the sunset with.
Remember, in the history of the franchise, Bond girls have never returned or even been mentioned again with the counted exceptions of Tracy, Sylvia Trench (thanks jamedudijench for reminding me of this one) and Vesper.
Craig's Bond has been allowed to evolve from zero into a relatively complex character and we're very close to the final step before he becomes the "classic" Bond we're used to but this time with a complete background that makes it a much more formed character.
I've commented this in previous threads and I'll do it once again here.
The final Craig movie should show him returning to the action before finally deciding he just can't "settle down" with Madeleine. We would see him deciding to leave her and return to MI-6 full time with only casual flings to keep him entertained.
Killing Madeleine would just put the character into vengeance overdrive and we already got that in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace (and it got old by the first third of the second movie).
Now we have to see him accept that he just not the type of guy that settles down and gives up doing what nobody does better.
That should probably make the finaly Craig movie end with Bond finally entering his definitive phase and getting ready to enjoy the action and the girls to the most.
He would no longer doubt himself nor yearn for a life that he knows it's not for him and maybe the next Bond can devote himself fully to the classic persona without so much psychological issues.
On a final note, it seems that Spectre confirms the pattern for Craig's films.
The odd ones are the good (Casino, Skyfall) and the even ones are the bad/mixed (Quantum, Spectre) so the next and fifth one should be a good sendoff to mr Craig.
