Cities of Splendor contains 4 separate expansions. The Cities: New objectives- Each city wants its major work of art. Create one to win the game. The Trading Posts: Amazing powers- Establish trading posts along the trade routes and obtain great privileges. Splendor is a game of chip-collecting and card development. Players are merchants of the Renaissance trying to buy gem mines, means of transportation, shops—all in order to acquire the most prestige points. If you’re wealthy enough, you might even receive a visit from a noble at some point, which of course will further increase your prestige. Cities of Splendor is a quartet of expansions for use with the Splendor base game. Each expansion is added to the basic game and they should be played separately. The Cities replaces the noble tiles with 3 different city tiles (randomly taken from a pool of 14). The city tiles are objectives (in prestige points and/or development cards) and you need to fulfill one of them in order to win. The expansion pack offers 4 new ways to play, keeping the game fresh and interesting, these game modes each come with a a variety of either new cards, new pieces and new rules for each mode. They're fairly easy to learn and each new mode changes how you play and win the game. It's definitely worth getting if you already have the original splendor game, but if you don't have it then this is worthless to you. My main issue with this is the packaging itself, it comes in the same size box as the In Splendor: The Strongholds, you build strongholds to reserve cards and block your opponents, or destroy those of other players to slow their progress. Splendor is an addictive strategy turn-based card game, where players assume the role of wealthy Renaissance merchants, exploiting mines and caravans, hiring craftsmen and leveraging their influence with the nobility. The goal is to get the biggest gem network and become the most influential merchant. That’s a big change, and it makes Splendor even deeper and more challenging. With the Orient expansion, this goes from feeling like a family-weight strategy game to a gamer’s game. This is my clear favorite of the different expansions. This makes Splendor feel like a much more interesting game, giving players more options than ever.
