Got a promotion and being moved to another location in Ohio, near Ashland. My wife and I have enjoyed smaller casinos in SW Michigan. We've had the ability to bet low limits most of the time or drive an hour to Indiana were we can consistently find $5 tables. I compiled a list of casinos within a 2 1/2 hour drive of us. Any information you can give would be helpful. If they don't have 5 dollar tables, do they have bubble craps? My wife mostly plays slots and carnival games. MGM Northfield Park (slots only) - does this location have bubble craps? 1 hour drive Jack Cleveland Casino. - Heard their minimums are $10, doesn't drop to 5. Do they have bubble craps? 1:05 drive. Hollywood Casino Columbus - Heard their minimums are $10, doesn't drop to 5. Do they have bubble craps? 1:20 drive Hollywood Casino Toldeo - I've been there on a weekday before 5 and seen $5 tables for poker and others. Wasn't a craps player then. Hello, I'm looking for some feedback on a hand from last night at Greektown in Detroit. I recently got a table change and have been at my current table for about 45 minutes. Villain in this hand seems like a pretty decent player. He knows many of the other regular grinders at this casino, has been discussing concepts such as equity with overcards, fold equity, etc. He usually raises when he enters pre, though he has limped a few times. I've seen him play aggressively pre with hands like QT when he has position. I am in my mid 20s, have been running pretty hot since I sat down, so he has seen me bet a lot preflop. He has seen me showdown hands like KTo or AJo after raising pre and a random K3s hand that I defended in the BB. I am sitting with around $225 or so and V has me covered. OTTH: There is a $5 button straddle this hand, so V is first to act in the small blind, and he raises to $17. Folds to me in lojack with KQh, and I decide to call. I only called because I was wary of getting into a bloated pot against someone who I think is better than me. Also there were having a $700 high hand promotion so I was hoping just to see if I could hit that. Most likely should have been a raise in position though as both those aren't really great reasons. Hijack and button fold and he calls. Flop comes Kc 7h 4h. He checks. I wasn't really sure what to make of this. I would have expected a c-bet with most hands, especially cuz the K is good for his range as the opening raiser. I thought about checking back, but this is about the best flop I could hope for with my hand, and I expect I am ahead often here, so I bet $25. He takes a few seconds to think, then raises to $50. I am not sure what this signifies on this board. My hand blocks many of his possible flushes he would raise pre, so he probably has a K or something like QQ, JJ, or TT and wants to see where he is at but maybe I should expect him to fold an underpair. I do block QQ but also KK. I could also see him opening pre with 77. I think about it for a bit and shove. If I call here I am left with about $180 or so behind in a pot of around $150. If the turn comes any non heart or non ace, I am probably still calling if he bets and then I am probably committed on the river too. If he has AK then I have 9 heart outs and 3 Q outs. If he has a set of 7s then I have 9 heart outs and 2 K outs (EDIT: I dumb). I think I have a good amount of equity with the flush draw and top pair second kicker, but maybe since I have decent showdown value that pushes it towards a call and reevaluate turn. Figured we should get a list going of protips and such that may assist your fellow DEMF Redditors.. so here we are. Post 'em if you got 'em and I'll update this here list: 1) Forans Grand Trunk - The closest bar to Hart Plaza and a damn good one. Great beer selection (cheaper than at the fest), decent food, and the bathrooms are a mild upgrade from the portajohns at the fest. 2) Know your venue. Detroit is a 2am town for liquor.. the vast majority of bars/clubs will be closed not long thereafter (be it by the bar itself or the DPD). There are a couple of exceptions, notably The Works and City Club, both of which are licensed to stay open late. Every year it seems there are a couple other bars that manage to get away with staying open (if I remember correctly, Elysium ran late a couple nights last year), but City Club and the Works are the only guarantees. 3) Casino bathrooms. 24 hours.. always clean. I refuse to shit in a bar except in the most dire of circumstances. If you're over 21 and find yourself close to one of the casinos, have at it. Obviously a hotel bathroom is ideal but the casino bathrooms don't suck. 4) Detroit cabbies are generally a soulless and evil lot that will try and con you into paying too much off-meter. If EVER in doubt, demand that they put the meter on (as opposed to charging flat $10 or $15 or whatever), if they give you shit over it they're probably trying to cheat you. Get out, another one will be along shortly. If you do manage to find a decent and honest cabbie, get that motherfuckers card/number. 5) Come prepared. Drink water, wear sunblock, if you smoke bring extra packs (they sell 'em at the fest but for something like $900 a pack... and people will be trying to bum 'em from ya left and right). If you happen to see the Camel Cigarette trailer - that's your goto for cheap smokes (they usually scan your ID so they can mail you promotional bullshit). 6) Late night eats. Coneys. Lafayette and American Coney Island are both downtown (right next to each other), and both open all night. Expect a crowd unless it's real late (say after 3:30-400). Plakas in Greektown is a viable option as well. Coneys are best enjoyed while drunk 7) Earplugs. Definitely. I didn't bring any two years ago and by the end my inner ear was hurting. Especially on the main stage, last year the bass was just out of control. I put in the plugs when I'm seeing a DJ I don't care that much about, but when it's someone I'm really there to see I will take them out so I can hear everything. Makes all the difference in the world. 8) The lines. The first day when people are waiting in line, it is going to be PACKED. Try to get your wristbands early. Maybe the day before. I think they are mailing me mine. If you do have to stand in line, there are multiple lines... go to the short one! Seems simple but I stood in the longest one thinking it was the only Gen Admission line... not true. There are like 8 Gen Adm lines. Be smart don't be a sheep.
